Love this place! One of the reasons I'm sad that I moved away but whenever I'm in town I always stop in. The homemade ice cream is soft and delicious and the flavors range from chocolate marshmallow (my favorite) to strawberry cheesecake. You can mix and match and try a few flavors at once. The waffle cones are fresh and to die for - I would recommend them over a cup or a sugar cone. The parking situation is never fun but is it anywhere in downtown, jc?! I love the old school ice cream shop feel - there's not many places left like it. Enjoy !

Probably the best ice cream place I've ever been to. Every single time I've been here, the ice cream has been delicious and the people behind the counter are super friendly. My go to is the chocolate chip cookie dough, but I'm sure anything they make is great.

This place is just around the corner from me, so I tend to like it for convenience sake. Pros: So many options! They have multiple flavors of both ice cream and gelato, and you can use them to make milkshakes/sundaes/etc. The waffle cone smell is to die for. Cons: In my experience, the ice cream doesn't taste very fresh. It's still good, but doesn't have the fresh creamery taste I was hoping for. The line is also usually very long (which speaks to their popularity in the neighborhood) which is probably why the workers tend to be more pushy than helpful. Note: there is a minimum amount required for credit card purchases, so be sure to bring cash or buy the largest size (which isn't necessarily a bad thing ).

Came here for dessert after my Sunday dinner at Just Beclaws. The line wasn't too long when I got there but was much longer after I paid (out the door and more). I thought I was going to have the hardest time deciding what I wanted - ube (taro), dulce de leche, cherry pistachio or lychee - they all sounded delicious! However, when I got to the front of the line, they were out of ume, they didn't have dulce de leche, the cherry in the cherry pistachio was too overpowering...I felt bad asking for samples for all the different flavors and finally settled on the coffee royale that was right in front of my face. The waffle cones are amazing, I'll give it that! They have this very airy bite to it that I couldn't get over! I got the kiddy scoop on a waffle cone for $4.50. Kind of pricey but you gotta do it for the experience, I guess!

Very good ice cream. They give you sizeable portions of at a decent price with plenty of flavors to choose from. These range from your basics like chocolate vanilla, to your basics - amped up a like cherry vanilla or chocolate chip cookie dough to unique flavors like lychee or pumpkin pie that I've never seen before. The problem is they run out of many of these "popular" flavors quickly, 3 things we wanted they were out of. I got the vanilla chocolate chip which was delicious and in a nice sized cup that is great for one can be shared with someone. The line moves pretty quickly - they have one that's outdoors and one inside to move things along even quicker. Also they welcome you to sample flavors which is nice. It's location is good too, it's slightly off the main drag of Newark ave. But not too deep in the house/apt. side streets.

Torico's makes me happy but overwhelms me all at once. Papaya ice cream tastes like Papaya and has bits of papaya in it. It isn't too sweet, which made me happy because I always get scared that unique fruit flavored ice cream would end up tasting like candied fruit - this was not the case. Also, dip anything and everything in the toasted coconut dip. It's one of a kind and adds a sweet and chocolatey coconut casing to your ice cream. $4 and some change for a generous scoop in a cone. Went on a Sunday afternoon and the place was not crowded. I still waited a few minutes before being helped but service is friendly. I'm just mad I have to keep coming back and I can't just try all the flavors in one sitting. But damn am I about this ice cream.

Coffee ice cream is soo good!l esp with hot fudge.Lines are always long but the lines move pretty fast. I would have given it 5 stars but sometimes they run out of certain flavors soo try to come earlier during the day instead of close to closing time! Definately worth trying!!

I tried several of their homemade flavors and they were all delicious so it was REALLY hard to decide. I originally wanted just one scoop, but gave in and had two - Avocado and Mamey. I love anything Ube (Filipino purple yam) but decided to go with MMey instead. I can buy Ube ice cream in some Filipino spots, if I absolutely want to.

What a wonderful wonderful establishment. They make such wonderful ice cream and are extremely reasonably priced. They have a bajillion favors and they're all really good. If I'm going to be honest, Milk Sugar Love is a bit more innovative when it comes to their ice cream, but Torico is much closer to Grove Street area and is a much easier impulse decision to make. I love this place and really need to be careful about how often I come, because if I'm not careful I'll balloon like Augustus Gloop.

Perfect for any summer day. They have so many flavors, the usual and the unexpected. There is always a line, no matter what time you decide to go. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Worth checking out.

Smooth, creamy, and cold, the mint cookie ice cream was a delight. It was really good ice cream. The shop is rather large and they sell not just ice cream but gelato, sorbet, soft serve, milkshakes, and malts.

Ice cream is amazing and waffle cone is crispy and soft at the same time if that even makes sense...gonna try and take it home to see if that works out. Love pistachio and dulce de leche from here!! (mind u I don't like dulce de leche) Just tasted pound cake ice cream and was awesome!! Thanks tony!

Can I give ten stars? This was my first time here and this is a very cute corner ice cream shop. Homemade ice cream with seasonal flavors - not sure which to choose ask for a sample! The ice cream was the Perfect combination of creamy and sweet. I ordered chocolate peanut butter and I had peanut butter in each bite! Total heaven. Portions are very generous even for the kiddie cup!!! Staff was very pleasant and I will definitely be back to try more flavors!

So I had this bookmarked for a while mainly because I saw they served green tea ice cream and I'm obsessed with that flavor and it's usually hard to come by. Anyway let me say that parking in Jersey City is horrendous it's almost equivalent to NYC parking. However, I was lucky enough to find a spot about 5 spots down from the shop itself. It consisted of two lines: a in store line and a outside window line. Both of which were very long and I have to be honest I was not expecting it at all. I waited on the in store line for about 15 minutes and when I finally got in side it was very tiny and colorful and smelled so delicious and sweet. There were so many flavors to choose from but I already knew that I wanted green tea and pound cake (pound cake was based off reviews). I have to be completely honest though after reading reviews I really expected to be blown away but to be honest it tasted like regular ice cream to me. Nothing really to "rave" about. Granted, they have many flavors that you won't see anywhere else which included avocado, lychee, pound cake, cinnamon and papaya. Overall I enjoyed it but I don't think it's necessarily worth the wait. Maybe I just expected too much based off the reviews.... I don't know.

Huge line for ice cream when we arrived on a Sunday evening. I didn't care- I ate too much and needed sometime to digest anyway. So my friend and I waited in line and chatted. Good time. They have so many flavors and I had a hard time choosing which flavor I want. Ended up getting green tea and ube (purple yam). Both were kinda mild flavor, especially the ube one. The waffle cone was really good too, but I hope they allow people to get two flavors with a small size because a large one is really large!!!

  • Barbara D.

Nice people. Plenty of flavors, toppings, and options available. Sprinkle cones in all styles!!!! Place has it all. It wasn't even really ice cream weather tonight, yet it had to be done. Definitely a fan. The line was out the door on this cool evening, so I cringe to think how ridiculous it will be once the weather really warms up. Happy Spring!

  • Dave R.

Great ice cream. Very busy. They had alot of flavors even a sugar free soft ice cream and they blend flavors into it like peanut butter. Yum. Due to the high traffic the floor was a mess, not a deal breaker it shows how popular this place is. Jersey City has really come a long way!

  • Alex C.

A downtown JC institution. Homemade flavors like Dulce de Leche, Lychee and Papaya. Can get really crowded on hot summer evenings, but they have outdoor seating. The ice cream is a little on the expensive side, but we have to support our local businesses!

Came here after dinner at Porta. The place had a line with a wait time of 20 minutes at 9:30pm on a Friday night.. I was like woa this must be a great spot. Fast forward to 10pm and I'm no longer excited. They were out of vanilla (my fav) and they don't have anything with hazelnut (seasonal only and apparently summer isn't the season for hazelnuts). I got the cookies and cream and it was good but I'm still disappointed. I will give it another try on a non busy evening.

I think it's the best ice cream...before Torico I thought cold stone is the grates ice cream place.. but I was so wrong.. the rich creamy ice cream is indulgence into heaven... and best part is u can try different flavors every time you go and all are equally good

I scream, you scream, we all scream at the thought of an ice cream shop that doesn't leave you smiling brilliantly. I will say up front that the shop itself is adorable with bright colors, window seating, and giant boards listing the myriad flavors, toppings and combinations available. The girl scooping was happy to give as many samples as I wanted (don't worry, I was civil and only tried two), and was pleasant the whole way through. The ice cream itself was not anything fabulous. Yes there are a lot of flavors, but there was a gumminess to the ice cream that I later read others also encountered. I typically find that happens when ice cream melts and congeals... Maybe that's the case here. I sampled the black sesame which truly did have subtle notes of sesame, but felt like it was too light a flavor for such a heavy ice cream. I settled on a kiddie size (single scoop) chocolate hazelnut. It wasn't robustly flavorful and I think really would have benefitted from some actual hazelnut pieces. It was okay, but not richly chocolate or hazelnut enough to enamor me. I am a HUGE fan of ice cream as any close friend can vouch. I've tried flavors from vanilla to garlic, chocolate to lobster. Alas Torico didn't overwhelm me with quality, and provides more rules to ice cream scooping than I prefer.

I went in there coz I had always seen a line outside .. We reached there around 10:30 and there was a long line. They were short of staff that night so the line was longer. Amazing variety .. Lots of options. I'm not an ice cream eater but I would go again to try the avocado n papaya ice cream. Lol. They were not accepting credit cards coz their machine was broken. ... Well there should be a sign outside to say CASH ONLY. Nice ice cream.

  • Andrea N.

Not the best ice cream I've ever had, but they have really interesting flavors at decent prices. It's Jersey City, so you really have to be in an ice cream mode to overcome the struggle of finding parking. On a nice day, the walk for Torico's is totally worth it. Not sure if I can validate spending 10 minutes looking for parking otherwise. I loved their Praline and Cream, but I've had fresher, tastier ice cream at Applegate Farms.

  • MJ S.

Love their ice cream combinations. You cannot miss trying the chocolate peanut butter simply one of the best I ever had.

  • Andy A.

Great ice cream but if you come at 10:57 even though they close at 11 don't expect to get service. Not to mention you have 3 kids a 9 month pregnant women with you. If you really close at 10:55 then that's what your sign should say that way I can keep my money as well. No thank you Torico.

Homemade ice cream only a 2 min. walk from the Grove Street Path Station?!? I'm there. I think I got a little over-excited because I stopped by 3 days in a row and going to make it a fourth. Being close to NYC, it is on the expensive side. They charge $3.50 for that tiny kiddie cup. Unfortunately, you can't combine flavors unless you get the large. I hate when ice cream places do that, but this just means I will have to taste more flavors before I choose. They have 50+ different flavors but the chocolate ones are crave-worthy, especially the Chocolate Peanut Butter. I would buy tubs of that stuff, which ironically they do offer. Here's my running list of all the flavors I have tried, which I'll keep on adding to: Must-gets: Cherry Chunk - So damn mouthwatering delicious. Get this!! x10. It's studded with cherries and chocolate chunks. Didn't expect the chocolate but best surprise ever because I'm a chocoholic. If I hadn't said it enough already get this!!! Chocolate Peanut Butter - This combination is why all is right in this world. Originally I just wanted to taste it, but it was so good, I had to get a cup. Amazing rich chocolatey taste enhanced by the chunks of peanut butter. Doesn't help my addiction to chocolate. Chocolate Cookie - Chocolate ice cream with large chunks of Oreos. Forget about cookies and cream, I'm always getting this flavor from now on. Perfect chocolate on chocolate combination. Coffee Cookies - I was a little hesitant about getting this flavor because I dislike the coffee but I'm so glad I decided to try it. Very light on the coffee flavor which is perfect for me. Kind of more like a mocha than straight up coffee. And of course, the cookies are an added bonus. Like: Passion Fruit Sorbet - Very refreshing. Tastes like Passion fruit bubble tea in sorbet form. Cherry Vanilla - I mistook this for the cherry chunk. Standard vanilla with large chunks of cherries. It's nothing special and can easily be purchased at a supermarket. Coconut Joy - Almond Joy in ice cream form. A little bit too sweet and strong in coconut flavor. I enjoyed the chunks of dark chocolate paired with the coconut and almonds. Jackfruit - Tastes like the real thing. Not artificial like I expected. Would not get again: Mango Sorbet - Really artificial tasting. Some mango sorbets taste like you are eating a fresh mango in ice form. This isn't one of them. Ube - Very grainy and tastes more like vanilla than purple yam. I guess they were too light with the flavoring. Next flavors to try: Cherry Chunk, Jack Fruit, Pralines & Cream, Guava

very good. Much recommended chocolate flavors and the waffle cones. Caution: longer wait times, but great spot in the JC neighborhood for post dinner treat !!

  • Racquel R.

The ice cream is delicious and made on-premises, though the ice cream is not the absolutely most spectacular thing I ever had. I would give this a solid B+ or A-, four stars. There are plentiful toppings and homemade waffle cones. Additionally, this has ice cream, sorbet, and gelato. It really hit the spot on a hot summer day. I picked up a mint cookie cup and ate it in practically a gulp. Delicious! This is exactly all I look for in an ice cream parlor - the place is clean, bright, with fresh ingredients, a friendly staff, and many flavors to choose from. Basically, go here for a friendly neighborhood ice cream establishment.

I really wanted to like this place. I had never been here and they have homemade ice cream. When you first walk in, you have a lot of flavors - ranging from your plain vanilla to lychee. And plus, I'm also not an ice cream connoisseur (although I really wish I was!), I just enjoy ice cream because it's been a childhood treat for me, like it has been for so many others. Unfortunately, I didn't have that positive of an experience here as I had wished. So to start off with the myriad of flavors offered, I settled with the green tea. How could you go wrong with green tea - every kind I've had, even out of the box, has tasted amazing. So, decided to get the regular - $4 plus tax, which is not a bad price for a huge scoop of homemade ice cream - and get to the counter. Sorry, you need $5 to make a credit card purchase. Okay fine, I'll pay with cash since it is policy. So they don't really have more than one table here, but they do have a bench area where you can place your ice cream nearby a window sill/countertop and sit comfortably. So we opted for this since the table was taken. While I'm trying to enjoy my green tea ice cream, which for some reason had really gluteny particles of I'm not even sure what it was in it, there's a screaming kid yelling at the three of us, spitting on us, while the parents are just keeping to themselves. Now please - I really am not one to question someone's parenting skills, I really am not, but please parents - tend to your kid when they're screaming at people who obviously are just keeping to themselves. Shoes on the bench, ice cream all over his face, and spit in my face - please. This really isn't on Torico but it didn't make my experience pleasant. Along with trying to eat the green tea ice cream which was somehow too sweet and tasted nothing like the bitter green tea ice cream that GREEN TEA has made its name with, I did not enjoy it.

Brother lives in jersey city so I've heard a lot about this place. It has a good amount of different flavors you don't see in normal ice cream parlors. I had a scoop of coffee royale and pound cake. Both amazing and creamy. Excited to come back for the summer rush.

Came in last week & it was a pretty cold day, so who in their right mind wants ice cream. Of course me ! I wasn't surprised it was pretty empty. And despite the fact there was no avocado that I've heard so much about. I was greeted with really sweet girls that offered samples of flavors I wanted to try since I haven't been to this establishment before & the number of flavors can be overwhelming. I went with the pumpkin pie & cheesecake. Pumpkin pie was definitely a hit for me. The cheesecake was good but nothing out of the ordinary. My boyfriend got the banana and something with fudge. The banana was really good, light & not overly sweet.

Meal: Snack Rationale: I think we'd just come back from a vacation and the return to reality made me depressed. The strategy was to fix it with sugar. Food: I had a scoop of rocky road and a scoop of blueberry cheesecake ice cream. The rocky road was creamy and marshmallowy and nutty, which was perfect. The blueberry cheesecake was weirdly similar in flavour to its namesake. Right on. Service/Atmosphere: Most ice cream shops creep me out (with the notable exception of Halo Pub in Princeton, NJ). It must be the bright lights and colours, the smiling, ponytailed employees, and the abundance of humming freezers into which you could stuff a few bodies. I cannot hold this against them, though, it's just the way it goes. I am a bit irritated by the line that sometimes forms here, but, hey, people like it and it keeps them in business. Conclusion: Good ice cream around the corner. I can't ask for anything more.

  • Craig G.

Hand's down, Jersey City's best ice cream shop. Perpetually crowded Torico's certainly isn't cheap (one heaping scoop of any of their dozens of homemade flavours will set you back almost $4), but the quality more than makes up for the price. Standbys like rocky road and butter pecan meet Eastern flavours like jackfruit and ube, and they whip up a wide range of ices and sorbets, too. Fair warning: do NOT attempt to indulge your sweet tooth on a sweltering summer night. You'll be waiting on line at least 15m before your order is taken.

Place lives up to the hype. Very clean, bright, inviting store. All sorts of flavors to sample. Absolutely delicious - a smidge expensive, but you're paying for high-quality stuff.

Going to keep this review simple. This place has cool staff that are always willing to help with samples and recommendations. The sheer number of flavors alone are worth the visit especially with flavors like avocado, mamay, and other exotic flavors. It will take a while just to go through their selection and so far all the flavors I have tried have been great. Its a must visit if you're in Jersey City and craving ice cream.

Great homemade ice cream, lots of flavors and variety. The girls working there are very nice. The only problem I have is that the prices are a little high, but otherwise a great place.

Ugh man. This place is so delicious. I got myself a peanut waffle cone with mint cookie ice cream. Best ever. Cute little shop too, would be great for an indie film. :)

Best ice cream parlor in the world... I might take half a star for the line, but I would gladly wait in the line for the ice cream here... Delicious and very smooth texture... Flavors are great! I see quite a few pounds gained this summer! If you find yourself in JC, definitely stop by!

  • D W.

I get it you're the only Ice Cream joint by Grove street in JC.... it's summertime... but $4+ for a REGULAR soft serve? it was like 3 bites and gone... come on now... the dollar ice cream at McDonalds was larger... if you really want people to come back and not make the Don Draper face of disgust... ...serve your soft serves with a little extra helping of love... about a 2 second longer pull of love... jeez

Two years ago, my best friend/roommate -- not a foodie -- comes in and says, "Ariana, I had the best icecream in Jersey City!" The next day, I make her take me to Torico's and we find it boarded up like an abandoned warehouse! :( Every time I passed by the parlor, I felt deprived. I went there a few days ago with a few friends. We waited in line for 10 minutes as children, families, and couples enjoyed the parlor's re-opening. We did not mind the wait, since we needed that time to decide which of the 60+ flavors we wanted to try. Between the three of us, we got: Guava sorbet -- I love sorbet, but it's hard to find really good sorbet. I LOVED this! Tasted so much like a guava. Sweet, with a bitter after-taste -- sthg that my bf did not like. Two scoops of Pound Cake and Banana icecream: I would have liked to see chunks of pound cake in the icecream, but it tasted like poundcake. Banana was also good. Chocolate with chocolate chunks: Decadent. Amazing. Swoon. Can't wait to try some of the exotic flavors: avocado, jackfruit, ube ... Torico is one of the reason's I love JC!

Torico's has amazing homemade ice cream and so many flavors to choose from. My favorites are chocolate peanut butter (whole chunks of peanut butter!), coconut joy, and coffee cookie.

This place is awesome! They have such an eclectic selection of flavors (avocado, etc) and I have never been disappointed. Staff is friendly and the prices are decent. They give nice size scoops for what you pay for. Definitely worth 5 stars! Only question is, why has Food Network not featured this place yet??

#1 flavor - Coffee Cookies. This is fact. But pretend like you don't know that so you can sample the other flavors before finally landing on it. Big fan of the Pound Cake (think rich french vanilla w/ pound cake chunks) and Pumpkin (think pumpkin). There are many others but half the fun is staring blankly at them and drooling while trying to decide. AWESOME service too. Very friendly.

  • Gab C.

Let me get this straight. If you are looking for simple flavors of ice cream here, it's not worth it. It's a bit expensive, but their ice cream is homemade and there are some good flavors here. If you're in the mood to support local businesses, come here. :) Coffee cookie ice cream and the chocolate cookie ice cream are delicious. Large flavor selection which is good since sometimes you're not sure what you are in the mood for.

So glad Torico's is back! I've been here three times now since the reopening. Needless to say, I'll definitely be going back often to check out some of the other ice cream flavors and sorbets. Those Custom Soft Serve flavors are really calling to me at the moment, though, so I'll probably be trying one or two of those next! Here are the Ice Cream flavors I've tried so far, in order of preference. Pralines & Cream - OMFG SO GOOD Coffee Cookies - Excellent! Almond Coconut - Excellent! Chocolate Marshmallow - Creamy, chocolatey... Excellent! Ube - Very Good... lots of yummy flavor, creamy Ginger- Very nice, strong flavor, so you really have to like ginger like I do. Pistachio - Made with salted pistachios, it seems. Tasty and interesting, but I admit I've had much better elsewhere Rocky Road - meh, but maybe that's because my scoop came from the bottom of the nearly empty tub! Just open a new one, Torico's, when it becomes so difficult to scoop from the bottom, that your arm starts hurting! Mint Julep Ice - (This is an ice, not an ice cream) Very light and refreshing, nicely balanced minty flavor and sweetness.

I came to Torico yesterday for the first time since they've re-opened. As usual, the flavors available are extensive and crazy good. My husband had Avocado (seriously!) and I had Pineapple-Coconut - which actually reminded me of a treat I used to devour when I was a kid living in a sweltering Australian suburb. Now that I'm a grown up living in sweltering Jersey City, I'm glad I can head to Torico to cool down when the temps jump above 90. The staff here are really sweet and the business looks great after the big renovation. I think we paid around $8 for two small cups - which really aren't small since it took me a good 20 mins to eat mine. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying a few more flavors!

Delicious! Fresh! Hormone free! Unique flavors like black sesame, tahini and molasses, and jack fruit keep us coming back. Average price for much better quality!

Did you know that 92% of the milk produced in the country goes waste?! Yes, cows in Wisconsin are unable to achieve self-actualization because of poor planning and resource allocation. No, I am not talking about the millions of gallons of milk wasted in the production of Pinkberry, but the fact that apparently only 8% of milk produced in the U.S. goes towards making ice cream. It's an outrage, I tell you!! :) They say in New York, you're at best a 90 minute subway ride away from any place in the world that you want to visit. Well, when the weather hits 90 degrees and you feel like being transported into a land where polar bears wear sweaters around you take that subway ride to have possibly the best ice cream in the city - which ironically turns out to be in Jersey City. I kid you not. "Everything is delicious": Todo Rico. A contraction of that would lead to the name of the ice cream parlor, Torico, which boasts a storied past spanning some 40 odd years. Catering to the Asian, Filipino, and Spanish speaking community they have flavors that interest everyone from Green tea, Litchi, Ube, Dulce de leche to your standard Butter Pecan, Rocky Road, Chocolate Peanut Butter, etc. Amongst the more unusual flavors are Jackfruit, Avocado and Sour Sop, and for the season: Pumpkin. On top of the 48 flavors for homemade ice cream are 24 flavors for soft serve (take that BGICT), 10 for Italian ices / Sherbets / Sorbets (take that Blue Marble), made from high quality ingredients with no powdered mixes (take that Pinkberry) so they don't have to retire flavors or keep changing their names (take that Tasteless d-lite). I discovered Torico's by accident 6 years ago, wandering around the back alleys of Jersey City. It was a warm Fourth of July and I and a few friends decided to explore the neighborhood before the fireworks. I was impressed with the organization and planning in the old fashioned ice cream shop isolating the tribe of nutty Pistachios from the elitist family of chocolate, or the cheerful cherries from their more vanilla cousins. Having the entire cast of characters under one roof is something that you can only expect in one city - except that this is Jersey City. At least we can all agree that the views are better here.

I have a love / hate relationship with New Jersey. Love that it only takes me half an hour to get home from work, hate that on a day with a PATH power outage it takes me two. Since there was limited service on the PATH train, I had to get off at the Grove stop. Grove is where I grew up and only a few minutes from where I live now. I took advantage of the situation to reminisce about the old neighborhood and I channeled the navigational system of Rod and Atif. Yes, we are on a first name basis now but only because they are of a select few willing to set foot in JC, and they find it crazy that I have never been to Torico's Homemade Ice Cream Parlor before. So I finally visited and am pleased to report that I love it. Torico's is a true neighborhood ice cream parlor. It's not fancy and it looks like it hasn't been remodeled or updated since it's very first day of business. The signs are old along with the furniture but the clientele is a mixture of all ages. Torico's is filled with screaming jumpy children all very excited for ice cream. They are accompanied by their mothers, grandparents, siblings, etc. There are couples, single folk, all sorts. Torico's is an ice cream parlor that all generations enjoy. There are no tubs in the glass cases. Instead there are tiny boxes of ice cream. Torico's has more flavors than you can imagine and they are all of what you can predict including Asian flavors like Lychee and Ube as well as seasonal (Pumpkin) and softserve (24 flavors including German Chocolate). This is the first time I have ever seen Pumpkin available and it wasn't October. I had a difficult time choosing but decided to go for different. I got a scoop of cinnamon and a scoop of cherry vanilla. The ice cream is very soft and creamy and just as I like it, not too sweet. The cinnamon tasted like a cinnamon stick swizzled in my cup. So good. The cherry vanilla was perfect. The cherries weren't sour and they blended well into the vanilla. I was happy because I was pining for the vanilla bean flavor but wanted something with a little more zest. I took my ice cream and proceeded home. Love that I walked by a little Philippine plaza, hate that some parts made me feel like I was gonna get jumped. Love ending up in my large apartment, still hate the snobbery of the building. It's bittersweet my impending leave of NJ. I love that I finally got to meet Torico. Thank you, Torico, for keeping it real. Love the ice cream, love the flavor, hate that it has taken me so long to find it.

I came in on a Sunday afternoon. The line was out the door, but moved fairly quickly... I had the coconut joy, which was pretty good. They have a great variety of fruity flavors, but nothing truly adventurous. It was really crowded, so we couldn't sit anywhere.

This...place...is...delicious! It is bittersweet no longer living a couple of blocks away from Torico. The bad: I could just stroll over whenever I wanted delicious home-made ice cream. The good: I no longer end up eating way too much ice cream. Every flavor I've tried here is great. I hate going to ice cream stores to just find the same old boring flavors but Torico must have around 40 flavors or more (between ice cream, sorbet, etc). The lines can be long sometimes but the wait is worth it and the staff is always super nice. try it!

Hundreds of flavors... Amazing staff, yummy ice cream... Next time you are craving ice cream try torico. Can't wait to go try the rest of the flavors they have to offer in clouding avacado!

This place brings back so many memories of my childhood. I remember walking around on the Avenue with my grandmother in the summers and stopping by Torico's for a special treat. I was about 5 years old when I first had coffee ice cream here. They're still very abundant with filling up the cones and cups! When I was a kid, my cone would be piled so high that I ended up accidentally dropping a scoop on the street. I have learned proper ice cream eating etiquette since then :) It makes me smile knowing they still pile on the ice cream and the prices are still affordable :) Jersey City has changed and the business with it. Staff is very friendly and accommodating, but watch out for fellow shoppers who aren't afraid to move you aside while you're trying to decide on some flavors. Ice cream savages! Lol Anyway, if you need a quick ice cream fix - Torico's is the place to go :)

I usually am not a big fan of ice cream, however my friend was hounding me to find a place. The bartender at Porta a block away was raving about how delicious the ice cream was at Torico so we headed over. As soon as you walk in you think you've died and gone to heaven. It smells amazing from their freshly made waffle cones. Also, they have a few dozen handmade ice cream flavors as well as frozen yogurt with extracts imported from Germany. An awesome selection for any type of ice cream (or in my case non-ice cream) lover. I got pecan ice cream and my friend had German Chocolate frozen yogurt, both wrapped in the waffle cone. Amazing!! Will definitely grab my daughters birthday cake from here. Highly recommended.

Torico is a very happening place downtown. They have great hard and soft serve ice cream. They have a wide range of flavors available. This is another place that seems to hire really good kids from the neighborhood which is quite pleasing to see. They have benches outside that there patrons can sit down on and enjoy their creamy treats. The kids love this place, and so do the parents and grand parents! Cool place, but the price is to high for the quality.

For a person who doesnt like sweets, i must say this is a pretty good ice cream place. The pistachio flavor is amazing along with other flavors. Definitely a stop by after dinner treat if you want to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Oh Torico, why have I only found out about you now?! My cousin decided to take me and our other cousins out for ice cream. It was a Saturday Spring afternoon and the place was packed. Full of teenagers and families. They have a ton of flavors but the ones that caught my eye were Ube (Purple Yam), Jackfruit, Lychee, Papaya, Guava, Passionfruit, and Tamarind. Love the fact that they have all these unique tripical flavors. I asked to try a sample of the Lychee but I knew my heart was already set on the Ube flavor (the Lychee was okay also). My fellow Filipinos will understand why - even though I was born here, being raised in the Filipino culture, they have Ube flavored everything! I have to say that Torico's Ube flavor did not disappoint! Majority of us ordered a small cup, which is more than enough to share between 2. One of my cousins got the Waffle cone. We also picked up a hand-packed pint ($7.45) of the Ube flavor to take home. They have a few small tables and chairs set up around the small shop. We got lucky enough to grab 2 of the tables for our group. We left ice cream-wasted. I'll be back Torico's!

Ube, lychee, tamarind and avocado just to name a few of my faves but my ABSOLUTE face would be COFFEE COOKIE! The last couple of times I've been here I've gotten it in a milk shake but usually get a small cup which is more than enough. Then I'll buy a pint to take home as well =) They have soooo many options which is pretty cool and everything is homemade! They also give you samples to taste in case you can't decide which flavor(s) you want. The staff is super friendly and love that they stay open late ALL YEAR long!

Finally had a chance to try Torico the other week. I had known about Torico for quite some time, mainly from my other Filipino friends who have raved about their Asian flavors: Jackfruit, Ube (Purple Yam), Lychee. You kind of wonder to yourself, "Heck, is this an Asian Ice Cream Shop?" Indeed this was not the case. Just an ice cream shop tailored to Jersey City residents. But with that said, I should see Indian and Hispanic flavors too...some corn and kulfi action! All in all I would say that this place was very, very good. There were soooo many flavors to choose from, it was all a little overwhelming at first. I was able to try a few samples; the Jackfruit, Ube and Pistachio. The flavors weren't overpowering at all, which concluded to me that the ingredients that make up each of the flavor were fresh. In the end I had gotten a scoop of the POUND CAKE and JACKFRUIT. The Ube flavor just didn't do it for me, it was more granular and fiber-y like real purple yam, and lacked on the flavor. My only deductions to this place would be the amount of scoops per size. I wanted two flavors in a small size cup and the girl behind the counter told me that two flavors automatically bumped me to the size of a large. Why couldn't she just scoop two flavors to equivalent the size a small cup? Or charge me for a medium for two scoops/flavors seemed fair enough. Two scoops in medium cup is valid, as would three scoops to equate to a large. Not two scoops to equal a large. I think she was definitely messing with me. Luckily for her, someone paid for my ice cream or else I would have settled for a one scoop small sized cup. Value 3.75 Flavor selection : 4.5 Craft: 4.0 Service: 3.5

I LOVE TORICO's such friendly staff the possibilities are endless with all of these flavors that you can mix! I love that they are open till 11 pm I think maybe 10 pm I have to double check but ALL YEAR AROUND you can walk to Erie and enjoy their amazing ice creams!! My personal favorite is the Rocky Road, walnuts marshmallows I know it sounds super sweet but it's not! It's delicious! thank you for creating such a magnificent ensemble of ingredients !!! This would be a five stars but price on these bad boys are not cheap. They are quite expensive for an ice cream shop but still I highly recommend this place such a treat!

So good that I want to give it just one star so the line isn't so long all the time!! Def a favorite for ice cream.

My go to ice cream shop. You can tell by the line that you're making the right decision. I usually get their freshly made waffle cones with chocolate chunk and cookie dough -- amazing! Must have if you're in Jersey City!

Whenever we are around jersey city we always have ice cream here. There is always a line They will also give sampler spoon. We had the leichee ice cream always a fav. Rocky road

Now that I'm in jc I can't visit my old fav in Brooklyn but this place is awesome. Way too many flavors like bumble gum and avocado, but if you stick to the regular stuff you won't be disappointed.

Been here twice now and I love it! Wish I lived closer to this place. I would have it every day if I could! The little shop is very bright and vibrant. It feels welcoming as you walk in. They have a ton of different flavors, all homemade! I've had the cookies and cream, chocolate hazelnut and chocolate peanut butter.....so far. Cookies and Cream is absolutely phenomenal. I like a little more cookie in mine and it had just that. I got that one as a ice cream sandwich. My only dislike is that the cookie wafer was hard and I prefer an actual cookie or something of a more softer texture. I had the chocolate hazelnut and the chocolate peanut butter on a waffle cone. The choco-PB combo was delicious. Perfect in every way. The hazelnut flavor on the other flavor was a bit stronger than I expected, but still very good. I'm thinking of going bold next time I go. I sampled the Avocado last time I went there and it was good. Tasty, creamy, but not heavy. Might have to put that bad boy on a cone next time I go! Highly recommend coming to this place, especially if you're near the area and you're a huge ice cream fan like me. It's a gem in JC!

    (5)
  • Atilla B.

Tried a few flavors here, but they are all overpowered by the cream and the ice cream was very heavy. Not my favorite kind of ice cream.... If you're not a fan of heavy stuff a la coldstone or Maggie moos, you probably won't like it either.

Located in the center of Jersey City, Torico Ice Cream seems to be one of the more popular dessert spots in the area. This mom and pop ice cream shop boasts interesting flavors such as lychee, ube, avocado, and many others. There was a consistent line from the minute we entered until the moment we left. The three workers there were diligently working to trim down the line. It seemed to me that every customer was genuinely enjoying their dessert and hanging around the store. This ice cream shop has indoor seating and outdoor seating, perfect for a great summer day in Jersey. When it was my time to order, I was split between the ube and avocado. I usually try to make an effort to order the strangest and most unique menu items each restaurant has. Avocado was the choice of the night, and the girl promptly proceeded to fulfill my order of avocado ice cream on a sugar cone. She had a bit of trouble muscling the frozen ice cream out of the container, but with much persistence, I was awarded with my ice cream cone! Initially I felt that it tasted like any other ice cream. It wasn't till my third bite that it started tasting really really good. My friend also agreed with me because he has the same initial thoughts as me until he started taking more bites at his ice cream. I'm not sure what it was, but the longer you eat the ice cream, the better it tastes. Maybe it has to do something with the ice cream warming up and releasing flavor onto your taste buds. The texture was very creamy, and I would recommend the avocado flavor again. Torico boasts a friendly staff, many flavors, and soft and hard serve ice cream. Everyone there seemed to be enjoying themselves, and the quality of ice cream is definitely a step above generic supermarket ice cream.

I had much better ice cream so I can't give this place more than three stars. Had the coconut cream and ube ice cream. Lacked flavor, creaminess in my opinion. It was nothing special. A lot of the flavors were almost neon colored, very bright and that turns me off. A few tables and a huge ice cream place. Nothing special though.

Cute place in a quiet neighborhood in Jersey City. The ice cream was delicious and you could tell it was homemade. I had the cinnamon ice cream on a cone and it was so good. Very flavorful. My boyfriend had dulce de leche (caramel) ice cream and that was good too. They had so many flavor to choose from, it was hard to decide on one! They also had frozen yogurt which is nice for the fro-yo lovers! So many flavors, definitely have to go back to try some new ones.

Torico is a must stop kinda spot if you are ever venturing the Grove Street area of Jersey City. All of their flavors are delicious, but the chocolate peanut butter one really won me over. I forgot the name, but it is quite popular. Slightly more expensive than a Haagen-Daaz or Ben and Jerry's joint, but so worth it! Plus the people working there are really nice too.

Best ice-cream in jersey city! Most of their items are homemade and are delicious...definitely go for the pound cake ice-cream, it even has little pieces of cake inside it - yum!! I have also ordered ice-cream cake for my brother in laws birthday and it is way better than any Carvel. Just make sure to order at least 2 days in advance for the cake, but well worth it. I would highly recommend this place to anyone :-)

You walk in and immediately get the classic ice cream shop vibe. Very bright, always packed, lots of options. I don't go out for ice cream often, but the scoops are decently portioned and they are pretty generous with the toppings. Definitely a great place to bring kids.

Came to Torico Ice Cream yesterday after the Hamilton Park festival and GP's Italian Festival. They first opened in 1968 and seems to be a very popular place to come to when you want to get your ice cream fix. Though they have lots of flavors to choose from the wife and I decided to be good and get their sugar free/fat free soft serve. I was very impressed that they have 24 different sugar free options that you can mix and match flavors for your taste. I decided on a medium cup with peach and blueberry. The wife went with the German Chocolate and strawberry in a sugar cone. Both were very good, not over powering on flavor, rich and creamy so you didn't know it was sugar free. This really hit the spot! Our server was very friendly and we were able to watch her do her magic on our choices. They actually mix the soft serve vanilla with the syrup in a separate container then put it in a sort of press which then delivers the ice cream in the old school swirl that you always remembered as a kid getting Mr. Softee or the like. Would love to come back and maybe get a little adventurous with the flavors. All their ice cream/ices are home made. (I will just have to make sure I am very good that day!) BRAIN FREEZE

I tried to have ice cream locally in Bayonne at 10:40 but could not find a decent place open. So I went online and found this place and I was not disappointed. The ice cream here is absolutely delicious and greatly price. I got a single scoop in a sugar cone and it was only $3.50, which was a great surprise. Staff was nice and attentive even though my group walked in ten minutes before closing. Only con is the signs that says "$5 credit card minimum". One of my friends were mislead and tried to pay for their $3.50 cone with a debit card, I would recommend putting "credit & debit cards have a $5 minimum" on the sign just to ensure no confusion or embarrassment.

Long lines and for good reasons. Store ended up opening a side window to take orders from the sidewalk to cut the line down. Excellent ice cream but get there early if you are wanting to try something different like Ube or Avocado as they sell out quickly.

Homemade ice cream? Yes please. Torico's offers a wide variety of flavors of ice cream, sorbet, and soft serve. Their list of soft serve is impressive. I've tried a couple flavors but it's their ice cream that I'm hooked on. Now I've been a coffee ice cream gal since childhood. Give me a pint of Haagen Dazs coffee and I am GOOD. Lucky for me, Torico's offers a couple variations. They have coffee royale which has swirls of chocolate and coffee cookies which has bits of oreo cookies mixed in. I highly recommend both. They have a small (I think it's a kiddie size?) that is just the right size for me. It says one scoop but they usually give two healthy sized servings. One gripe I have is that they typically don't let you get two flavors in the small. You're giving me two scoops, why can't I pick two flavors?! (And it's really bc they have so many options. It's hard to settle for just one!)

If I could live there, I would. Me and my husband are ice cream fanatics and we seek high and wide for good quality ice cream. After all, if you are going to eat it it might as well be worth the calories, no? This is it. You want amazing flavours, amazing texture plus very kind and warm humans giving it to you, seek no further. (last time we where there a woman was there with two young girls. She ordered their ice cream and they started to eat it. She went to pay and realised she had forgotten her wallet back home. My husband offered to pay for her. The lady at the cash register said it wasn't necessary. She asked the woman to come back later in the day to pay and that was it...) #onlyinJerseyCity Warmth and ice cream, what else could you ask for?

Stopped in here after my birthday dinner a few weeks ago and was very happy! My friends all ordered different things -- coffee, plain chocolate, come chocolate/pb creation -- and all of them said it was awesome. I got cherry pistachio and WOW! Honestly, i'm not a huge fan of ice cream normally (id opt for a cupcake or candy bar over ice cream) but this might change that. Great consistency, very creamy and smooth. the cherries they used were slightly jelled but not overly sweet. I can't wait to go back and try everything!!!!!

I really was pumped to try this place . It's been on my list of homemade ice cream joints in nj since last summer . The place inside is very nice , clean and I got a great vibe once I was there but then I started trying the flavors . I tried the rocky road first . It was by far the worst rocky road I've ever had . And the actual ice cream part was "chewy" kinda like freezer burn texture . So I tried the coffee chocolate figuring the rocky road just wasn't fresh . Same result . Chewy , almost crunchy ice cream texture with zero creamy texture you would find in a real homemade ice cream . Finally I tried the coconut Almond because I didn't want to leave completely dissatisfied . Same...... This place obviously needs to learn how to churn ice cream properly . My choices for homemade ice cream in nj are still: 1. Nastos 2. Kilwins 3. Cliffs

Yummo! I've been here a handful of times and it's always crowded but the lines move sort of fast. I think whenever I've been in line I was so excited that someone was going to hand me ice cream at the end that I didn't notice the wait! My friend always gets the same thing, she calls it the ice cream version of a Snickers bar: chocolate ice cream with caramel and nuts. Heavenly. I've had the chocolate peanut butter and the pound cake. Everything has been delicious. This last time I was trying to eat a little lighter so I had the custom flavored sugar free fat free soft serve ice cream. Hear me out...I know what you're probably thinking but it was very good! I know! I was surprised too! I am searching for nutritional info online but I suspect it's not available - just eat it and go to the gym the next day, I suppose. It's worth the splurge.

This place always makes my day. As an avid dessert lover, I can say Torico is one of the best homemade ice cream shops in Jersey. The workers are always helpful even when the line's out the door. They have a large variety of flavors, and offer seasonal ones as well. I am a huge fan of their cheesecake flavors and recommend it to everyone I bring here.

Ever since moving to the East Coast I have been craving not only ice cream, but just a great overall sundae to satisfy the cravings. When I first walked into the place, I was not only blown away by the great smelling waffle cones, but by the variety of ice creams that they had!! There is a great variety of flavors from your vanilla and chocolate to your lychee and pound cake! To top it off, they offer a good variety of toppings to add to your ice cream and the cones are flat out amazing. In addition the customer service was great as well as the workers were all smiles. Even when my friend dropped her ice cream on the ground (I won't mention any names), the workers were more than happy to give her a free replacement. Great overall experience every time I come here! No more Mr. Softee trucks for this guy!!

Lots of flavors and choices (floats, sundaes, slushes, italian ice) but the ice cream seems like it's pumped full of air. It misses on consistency. A very good example of quantity over quality. Very little seating inside despite having a huge floor area. What's with that? I notice that someone included a picture of the place. Today (18 July 2010) it has one table with two chairs. They close during the winter, which I think bites. We went to Tommy Two Scoops over on York St. yesterday for gelato...and it was MUCH better and they have a bunch of seating out back. Come on Torico. You've finally got some serious competition. Time to set about improving on all fronts.

When: Whenever possible Meal: Dessert The restaurant: It's tiny and it's very much a village ice cream shop, and it's all the more lovely because of it. The food: One word: YUM. This is quite possibly the best ice cream parlor I've been to (Rich's II in Toms River is the other "best"). I love taking my friends here. Mostly I just love ice cream. They even have an Ube flavored ice cream. I'm not wholly sure what an Ube is (a friend told me it was some kind of fruit), but that they have it is a testament to the variety of flavors they offer. The soft ice creams are the best. Final verdict? Perfect for those hot summer nights and slow walks around the neighborhood, and for reflecting on what a charming little area of Jersey City you've found yourself in.

Wow. It's amazing how difficult it is nowadays to find a good, old fashioned ice cream shop. The boyfriend and I were visiting some friends in Jersey City and decided to come here after dinner. I got the vanilla bean, bf got the cookies and cream, and our friends shared the jackfruit. (yup, they have jackfruit flavored ice cream..) The vanilla bean was amazing..vanilla seeds everywhere! I had a taste of my bf's cookies and cream and immediately wished I had gotten that one. The cookies and cream is made with the vanilla bean ice cream, so not only do you get the wonderful chocolateyness from the cookie, but you also get the vanilla specks! Just some really good, creamy, wholesome ice cream. Can't wait to be back here to taste all the other flavors! Oh, and FYI, they have a little window where you can order your ice cream to go with much, much shorter lines in case you're in a rush!

blah.... small portions with mothers yelling at the clerks behind the counter because thier scoops are too small... overpriced. I enjoy breyers/edys out of the carton more than this ice cream. Its fine, just not that homemade creamy pile of goodness your looking for. Especially if you have to wait in the snail line to get it.

I couldn't wait to try this fun looking ice cream parlor...But, I had to, because there was always a long line. Finally, my husband and I hit it on a good night where there were only a few people waiting. I got the coffee and praline and he got the chocolate marshmallow. Both were pretty good, but I thought it was a little pricey for the quality. I'd still come back for a treat.

DELICIOUS!! I love "Mom and Pop" shops and missed them so much during my Florida and DC stays.. This shop is adorable and filled with homemade goodness. A bit pricey for one scoop but they do tend to have a heavy hand when making a cone. The flavors vary from chocolate marsh mellow to guava berry .. all as delicious and the fruit flavors have REAL chunks of fruit. They also make cakes, sundaes, shakes and so on . I had a double scoop of chocolate peanut butter and vanilla cookie dough my guy had a coconut milkshake. We also purchased an apple pie sundae for later. The cone was delicious and had the right amount of cone to ice cream ratio, the shake was light and tasty. Neither item tasted old or stale like some other places in town. The service was great .. and I also enjoyed the sampler packs you can buy. Sadly they do close for the winter .. so stock up now!

I love Torico's and find myself there quite often during the summer. They have a HUGE variety of flavors and their soft serve is great. In addition they also have Fat Free Soft Serve and Italian Ices! I'm a big fan of the place, and the lines usually go by quickly because they have 3/4 girls working at a time. If you want to stay and sit there there are tables & chairs both inside and out, which are really convenient. The only reason I didn't give it a five star rating is because the price is a little high for a treat, but every once in a while it's nice. Overall though, this place is great..it's tasty and there's great service & atmosphere. What more could you ask for?

Was just introduced to this place tonight! Very "cool" place from ice cream (ok that was a really corny joke even for me!) Anyway, there were so many flavors and types of ice cream it took several samples for me to narrow down to one scoop (giant scoop at that) of Coffee Cookie ice cream in a cake cone that had been chocolate dipped with chocolate sprinkles! Ice creams: At least 30 flavors (a fellow yelper earlier posted an extensive list of them) Sherberts: 10 flavors include Mango Soft serve: 25 flavors!! I couldn't believe it until I saw it. They also have ice cream floats, cakes, ice cream sandwiches, milkshakes, sugar cones, waffle cones, waffle bowls. I think even frozen yogurt. It's a pretty small place, with a few seats but enough room for you and a few friends to hang about. Delicious, will be back!

This place really does have great home made ice cream. Pretty much the only thing that beats it is gourmet crafted gelato (Il Labratorio, L'Arte Del Gelato, etc). With the HUGE selection of flavors I wanted to make my first visit count, so I opted for the exotic flavors sampler: Jackfruit (Amazing flavor. Hard to describe) Mamey (very light flavor) Lychee (light lychee flavor, but I'm not a lychee fan so I only tasted once) Green Tea (doesn't compare to good Japanese green tea ice cream) Pumpkin (tastes just like the filling in pumpkin pie) Ginger (probably my favorite out of the lot. Addictive. Has little bits of ginger root in it) Avocado (VERY light flavor, but super rich) Cinnamon (not 'spicy' cinnamon, but good cinnimon flavor) Overall it was a great selection of ice creams. My only complaint was that most of the flavors were just a bit too light for my liking. Take the flavors up a notch and this is a 5 easy. mmm...what can I say? This is the best ice cream on earth. I can't believe I live right behind it and after almost two years residing in that area, I just found out about Torico's. The best, it brings good memories of my hometown in South America where I used to have avocado ice cream, mamey, vanilla bean, coconut cream, passion fruit, and a wide selection of the best tropical fruits in one place. Creamy texture, big portions and good prices. I think I'm becoming addicted to this place.

I've only been here a couple times, so I feel like I'm wading into a big debate by posting this review. I love, love, love this place as a neighborhood/Jersey City institution, love the atmosphere, love the friendly, sweet servers, love the mix of all different types of people young and old that make the place what it is, but I'm afraid I have to say I'm slightly underwhelmed by the quality of the ice cream itself as compared to other famous NYC-area ice cream spots like Chinatown Ice Cream factory. I appreciate their attempt to go into "exotic" (essentially Asian) flavors, but I've tried both the Ginger and Lychee varieties and found the flavors a little too weak, compared to what you'd get in a genuinely Asian ice cream place. The ice cream itself is sweet, creamy, and obviously homemade, but the high sugar content kind of overwhelms the "exotic" ingredients. I'm sure the more conventional, western flavors would be fantastic though. Still, I love everything this place is about as a true, local, non-chain business, and as a place that's open late and brings all different kinds of people together, and hope it sticks around forever.

Like, come back soon, ya know. Summer is dwindling away and there is no delicious ice cream to be found.

I sort of consider myself an ice cream enthusiast and Toricos just dissapointed me with more flavors than the ones I was satisfied with. The quality of ice cream is at par with Baskin Robbins, maybe turkey Hill...The ice cream is not particularly creamy, too sweet or not sweet enough, and not all that flavorful to be called gourmet, homemade, or premium. Green tea flavor s totally off, and mos exotic flavors taste sweet but not all that different from each other. I like Torico's because it offers a good choice of flavors, and I go here often because I live a block away. Yet, if there were better choices in the area, I'd treat it as any Baskin Robbins or Carvel. So, don't expect Torico's scoops to have a "fresh" and appealing taste and/or flavor. Sure, it's homemade, but it's not special, trust me.

One of the very few things I miss about Jersey. Awesome array of flavors, plus soft serve in any flavor you want, and good sprinkles--the kind that don't stick to the roof of your mouth. Without this place, I might have failed the bar exam.

If you like soft hand packed ice cream a la Australian homemade, then this place is for you. They offer sample packs of 8 for $9.95 where you get to try many flavors. I thought the ice cream here was way too soft. I tried two samples: the Soursop sorbet, which was good, and the Mamey ice cream, which was very subtle. I then proceeded to order two scoops (~$4.50): one banana (strong flavor, good) and blueberry cheesecake (whole blueberries in there, too bad the 'cheesecake' part tasting faux and reminded me of medicine). That said, I am indifferent about going back. I'll stick to my CICF as I like my ice cream 'chewy' Total came out to $4.98 after everything

Don't pass this place up! This is by far the BEST ice-cream parlor I have ever been to! I've been going to Torico's for as long as I can remember and the place has improved tremendously. Not that it was bad before, but it's grown into this lovely local ice cream spot that everyone loves. The choices here are endless!! I'm guessing it tastes so good because it's homemade? Whatever it is, it's amazing! That place is packed in the summer with people of all ages. It's cute too because they have pictures of their customers/locals on one of their walls. The walls are also adorned with all their fabulous ice cream flavors. Although the staff is usually high school kids, the service is 5 stars. They are very patient and will give you ice cream samples upon request. If you have the pleasure of meeting the owner, he is very nice as well. Prices have definitely gone up over the years, but so has everything else! The portion size is generous, so it's worth your 5 bucks!

Have you ever heard of pound cake ice cream? Well if you want to try it, you've got to head to Torico's. They also have some yummy tropical flavors like ube, jackfruit, lychee, and mamey. I don't know what mamey tastes, so I'm going to have to try it next time. If you like soft serve ice cream, they have over 20 flavors!

Just six words: Cinnamon and Pound Cake Ice Cream. Homechurned ice cream in like, 091231092284234 flavors. Okay, not really, but plenty to fulfill any appetite and taste palate. Though it's a bit pricy, for fresh baked waffle cones (with free samples!) and good portions of ice cream, it's awesome. The service is good -- the staff is nice, they'll let you sample whatever kind of ice cream (and multiple flavors without getting snappy), give suggestions, aren't impatient, and the first time I went they gave me an extra scoop for no charge. The last time I went, there was a huge line, so I ended up walking out instead of ordering the water I wanted to (i did get an ice cream before the line). But all in al, it's superfantastical. Dangerous for future dental health, but superfantastical nonetheless.

yummm icecream..try the pound cake or the coconut joy..and make sure you have it with fudge..hmmm..pure bliss!

This place has the nicest staff I have ever encountered (even when the line is out the door and it's slammed). They have tons of flavors and an entire section of soft serve which is impressive. I was also struck by their exotic sorbet fruit flavors (passion fruit, soursop, jack fruit, etc). Definitely a gem in Jersey City!

They advertise 60 flavors, but somehow I think it is more... there always seems to be too many to make a quick decision. The good news is that any decision is a good one. On my last visit a children's birthday party was in full swing, with kids doing laps around the tables chasing each other. The place was filled with balloons and screams, just the way an ice cream parlor should be, even if they were stepping on my feet. Maybe it is true that the milkshakes are not quite as thick as I would prefer, but the ice cream is so good that in the end it does not matter. The best part is that you can choose any flavor they have, and they will create the shake with it. They don't even mind if you encourage them to make it as thick as possible. The small chocolate I ordered ($4.15) froze my hand on a day much too chilly to be drinking ice cream, but it was a small price to pay. I think this might be the best milkshake in the city.

  • sara n.

as the other's have said.... many many many flavors to choose from.. 3 kinds of coffee flavors, lychee, jackfruit (whatever that is), vanilla peanutbutter, Butterscotch (yum!), even avocado flavored ice cream... besides all thee ice cream flavors, they've also got plenty of topping flavors too. Prices are average, and you get just the right portion size. definitly a place to try when you're in the area. and the staff is very friendly and you can sample as many flavors before deciding.. they also have these readymade sampler sets if you can't choose and are with agroup of people.. they are like a set of 6 or so flavors within a certain theme that you buy and share. As you can imagine, this place is swarming with children, but they aren't annoying when they're eating bubblegum flavored ice cream.

One of my molars kills me every time I'm here, though I'm not sure that is Torico's fault, but rather my shoddy dental work. The ice cream is---guess what--really cold, and very sweet, and very tasty. The folks who work here are helpful and tend to give you more than you ask for (when you're paying $5 for a medium you better get more). Flavors to steer towards: pumpkin, avocado (for originality), vanilla bean (classic), anything with peanut butter in it. My roommate had the caramel syrup last night and claimed it tasted homemade. While I don't know the validity of the homemade-ness of the caramel, I do know that if a place can convince you without even saying anything that you are eating homemade... then you must keep it on your favorites list. For NYC-area visitors, it's about 3 blocks from the Grove Street PATH station. Yes it's right next to the police station but consider yourself extra safe -- and you go get yourself a cone. Open until 11pm! EDIT: I think it may be open until 10pm now.

  • Maria J.

This is pretty much the best ice cream you'll have. There are dozens of flavors from which you can choose, and they're all homemade. You can sample as many flavors as you like before you commit to one. They have really interesting flavors, like avocado, pound cake, ube, and jack fruit. All of the servers are helpful and nice, making this a great customer service experience.

I love this place. Whether I am having sherbet or a killer ice cream Sunday I always leave Torico's satisfied and thinking about what I want next time. Two weeks ago my husband and I went in for an afternoon snack and walked out with an ice cream cake too (for later) and it was delicious. If you are near Grove Street you NEED to give this homemade ice cream shop a try.

I heard great things about this place but was very disappointed. I had been craving a milkshake for days and finally succumbed today, when I found myself a block away from Torico's. For a $6 price tag, I was expecting a thick, rich vanilla milkshake but instead got a thin, runny, glorified glass of milk with chunks of ice in it. Very disappointing.

  • Sonia S.

We love this place! There are so many flavors making it hard to choose which one to have. I especially love their Mamey ice cream. Mamey is so hard to find, but it is so good and Torico knows just how to make it right. I only wish this place didn't close during the winter. I write this as see the snow outside and wishing the winter will finally end.

I think the ice cream here is just delicious. They have a great selection to choose from. I would say it's a bit pricey, but so i Ben & Jerry's if you went there. Everything seems to be fresh and the place is always clean. If your looking for some good stuff, this is your place

This place is THE BEST!!! Their forzen yogurt and icecream is the best. It's all home made and the flavors are endless! LOVE IT! They were also kind enough to donate a GC for a non profit that I work with...good tasting icecream and kind hearted...what else could I ask for???

  • Stephanie S.

I truly love this ice cream shop. The service is amazingly warm and friendly and you will never run out of delicious options! My favorites are the less standard flavors like ginger, mamey (similar taste to an almond and cherry mix) and avocado. This year's newest flavor, soursop, resembles creamy citrus and is also really light and delicious. The portions are much larger than you would imagine and are really reasonably priced! Highly recommended!

Good ice cream. I wouldn't say it's the best ice cream I've ever had, but it's good. If you've been to a few good ice cream parlors, you'll probably find it's comparable. The reason this place is so highly rated, I think, is because it's the only decent ice cream parlor in downtown JC (that I know of, anyway). My one complaint is that despite the good selection, I always find myself not really finding the flavor I want--and that is a good chocolate fudgy brownie type of thing. If you're a die-hard chocolalic, you're going to be left wanting something else.

    (4)
  • Yara C.

this place is always coming up with new flavors, each of them are a work of art. at times, the sweetness overpowers the flavor, and that is why it gets 4 stars from me. Try the black cherry-pistachio icecream--a green and pink concoction from the heavens. Everyone is really friendly, too. Torico's is a must-go in the summer! Avocado icecream? Who knew?!

High quality Ice cream to the extreme. LOW LOW PRICES. I dont know what to say other than that if you havent had this ice cream your failing to know what the true value of ice cream is. This is the Alpha and Omega of ice cream. The absolute value of delicious. From the service to the Ice cream itself your mind will be both expanded and destroyed. How did they do this you'll wonder suddenly fast forwarding to your 200th cup and looking down thinking why cant I see my feet. Try it and tell me if I'm lying... well If your lactose intolerant don't do it.

I moved out of JC in '07, and I STILL dream about their coffee & cookies combo...in fact, it was the last thing I got the night before we moved! SO tasty.

  • Alice M.

Crazy ice cream goodness! I am a cheap skate at heart, so when I will pay for the medium sundae without blinking an eye, trust me, it is worth it. As stated, all the ice cream is home made. They have flavors out the wazoo. Funky flavors (ginger), flavors you have never heard of (lychee), twists on old favorite flavors (vanilla peanut butter) and classics. The service is always great, they are always patient with me (I get all deer-in-headlight with too many choices), and it is one of my favorite places to take out of towners. The biggest downfall is that I must walk past them every day on the way home, so it is hard not to enter every time. I figure if I do go in everytime, sooner or later I won't fit in the door, so that helps to keep me out. Oh, wait, they have a walk up window. Dang it!

    (5)
  • Heath R.

The ice cream is homemade, and they offer a wide variety of flavors -- which means that it's extremely fresh and tasty. I tried two kinds today: the chocolate marshmallow, which was light on the marshmallow but still very delicious, and the cinnamon -- which was awesome. Torico's also offers a range of slushies, which are another refreshing summertime treat. If I lived in the area, I'd probably make the walk here at least a couple of nights a week after dinner. Well worth checking out. If you're heading in from Manhattan, it's not too far from the Grove Street PATH station, and there are two pleasant parks also within easy walking distance. Catch the PATH, grab a cone, and head for some green space!

  • Edward I.

They've got a walk up window, so if you've got a pet or ride a bike, you can tap on the window and get what you need. The location is ideal for anyone who walks, but not for drivers. A good place to finish your lunch after eating at La Conguita, located a block away. Safe because the police station is practically next to it. Safer if they sell donuts hahaha. Will try the Ube next time, I'm a vanilla softie waffle cone kind of guy.

Fantastic little neighborhood spot - dangerous for me, as I live a few blocks away and never need a real reason to go out for ice cream (you don't have to twist my arm). Terrific homemade combinations as well as tasty soft serve.

Slightly bad becuase I live around the corner! But AWESOME place. I gained 8 lbs in 4 months eating here. So nice and the flavors are to die for. Only drawback is the serving sizes are a little skimpy for the price tag, but I guess if it keeps her in business I can live with it.

i love torico's. i have lived in jersey city going on 9 years! and when i found torico's tucked away on erie street, it was like i struck gold! and the owner was there that day and he said that he'd been there for years and years!! i have never been disapointed with torico's EVER. even with the lines are long -- who can fault ANYONE for wanting a delicious torico's treat? my favorites are the coffee + cookie and the pumpking and green tea. i also loved the sampler idea b/c it was a great way to try all those flavors without gaining a million pounds!! i plan on eating a banana split this weekend! i can't wait. seriously. have i said that i love toricos??? the best part is that this is a family owned and operated business. and like, the happiest ladies work there. going to torico's is like looking at a puppy, you can't help but smile!!!

My sister lives around the corner from this place and it is BOMB!!! I got a simple ice cream sundae and words cannot express how fast I ate it! My sister also picked up a homemade ice cream cake from here and again...it was BOMB! They also had italian ice here, which I am sure is pretty tasty. I wish my neighborhood had a chill spot like Torico's to hit up, this place is great for family, friends, or just yo-self!

try the MAMEY flavor!!!! its like a strawberry and a raspberry flavor but better! So good...!

    (5)
  • Monica T.

The ice cream is DELISH! They have some super interesting flavors at Torico's, but there are so many options to choose from that people end up trying 5+ flavors and hold up the line. It took me half an hour to get one scoop of ice cream on a waffle cone, but it was worth it. The waffle cone is freshly made (you can actually see woman working the waffle machine) and the ice cream is sooo creamy.

  • Vin D.

This stuff is better than ice cream, its beyond ice cream, its like your first summer hookup and legal heroin in a cone!!! If you prefer the awful flavors you've had before (like breyers chocolate or welsh farms vanilla) stay away from Jackfruit, Mamey or Ube cause it leaves more for me! But they have chocolate too and its amazing!!!!

    (5)
  • Simon T.

The ice cream is great! My wife and I tried the guava sherbet and blueberry cheesecake ice cream and both were delicious. It came out to be $4.98 for 2 scoops so it's similar to other homemade ice cream shops. Only 4 stars because service was slow. Ended up having to wait 10 minutes in line.

  • regina j.

Simply the best! I love the variety of flavors (lots of tropical offerings like tamarind, guanabana, passion fruit, etc. as well as classics like butter pecan and coffee, all of which are house-made.). The service is very attentive, and they're generous with the samples.. It can be a wee bit pricey, but the quality of ingredients is excellent, so I suppose you get what you pay for!

A frozen yogurt cone that is not very big costs about $4. It's not like it's homemade; they charge far too much. I can get the same for FAR less. THe people are very nice, however.

This place is decent with different types of ice cream that you don't find in Baskin Robin or any other Ice cream chain parlors. I suggest you come here on a hot summer day and enjoy some frozen goodies with friends. The decor is quite bare, with only three available tables for you. The price is alright. Be warned that High School Student with very low attention span work there and will occasionally make mistakes on your order.

Great neighborhood Ice Cream place. Run by locals that hire local kids that serve up homemade ice cream. So far this spot, which is only open when the weather is ice-cream friendly, has avoided being a casualty of downtown gentrification in Jersey City. Let's hope it sticks around, this is what a community is supposed to look like.

  • Robert G.

There are lots of flavors and generous portions. I got the small cone and it was more than enough. The green tea ice cream is very good. Word of caution: We got there at 10:50 PM on a Friday night and they had the closed sign up at exactly 11:00 PM.

French-vanilla, butter-pecan, chocolate-deluxe, Even caramel sundaes is gettin' touched, And scooped in my ice cream truck, Wu tears it up. After the sensory overload of trying to pick a flavor (there's a huge board listing the flavors and numerous freezers), I figured out which direction the line was going in. I couldn't help myself from making faces at new people who walked in trying to order ahead of me (I have a mental diagram of who entered when, buddy!). I went with Butter Pecan and Pound Cream scoops on a sugar cone (AKA Butter on Butter on Butter). I particular enjoyed eating my ice cream cone in front of the parlor (watching ice cream-less children passing by).

Very good ICE CREAM. Love this place. They are away from the main street, but do they get packed! My favorite flavor is PISTACHIO, but I have to say you can't go wrong with any of their vast flavors.

I've been waiting to go to Torico for almost two years, since it closed for renovations right before I met my bf and he is the one who lives nearby and introduced me to it. Now I understand why he was so sad that it was closed for so long! We went last night, and even though there was a long line, the wait was pretty quick (don't let a long line deter you!). I sampled the Vanilla Peanut Butter (heavenly) but ended up getting the Coffee Cookie because I always get PB. It was excellent! The texture was great, and there was a lot of Oreo-esque cookie mixed in. I got a kid's size, and there were at least three scoops in it, so it was definitely enough. I also sampled Butterscotch (would be great in a sundae), and I stole a little of my bf's Cinnamon. They should really call the Cinnamon something like "French Toast", because I bet a lot of people thing Cinnamon ice cream sounds gross and never consider it. It's extremely delicious (tastes just like Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, in ice cream form), and combined with coffee, is like the ice cream version of a cappuccino. I really wanted to try the fat-free, sugar-free (or maybe no sugar added) soft serve with the customizable flavors, but my bf insisted I have the homemade hard ice cream for my first visit. I'm definitely going back, and I will definitely try the soft serve to try to have a treat on the lighter side

This summer is blazin hot. I feel as if I'm living in a sauna. The solution is simple: ICE CREAM!! Torico has sooo many flavors. I couldn't make up my mind. I settled on the strawberry cheesecake which was so good.

Yum! Stopped in last night after a great walk with our dog. My husband and I wanted ice cream, I told him I'd passed Torico earlier in the week, and suggested it. He was all for it. The flavor varieties are great. The husband had blackberry, I had green tea, and I got a kiddie cup of soft serve vanilla for the dog. Hey, he deserved a treat, too. The place had a number of workers there so service was quick and very polite. I couldn't decide between a couple of flavors and the young lady made suggestions. All in all, very nice. Lots of bench & little table seating inside (all empty because it was such a nice evening), outside there were bistro tables with chairs. We would have sat but there were a lot of people sitting at those tables, and none seemed interested in getting up and moving. I'll definitely be back.

The people here are way too happy to be serving ice cream. They must be very well paid. If you're in the area, this is the one and only place you should be stopping for some dessert. Don't go anywhere else. It's probably more expensive and not as good. For real.

  • Seema U.

The ice cream here is pretty good and it's all home made which is awesome. I love that they have a ton of flavors and toppings and you can try different stuff to see what you like. My personal favorite is the coffee cookie with Heath pieces. The crunchy toffee bits and coffee ice cream go together perfectly and there are Oreo pieces in the ice cream too. The ice cream at Torico is really good, but not 5 stars for a few reasons. One,some of the flavors seem way too sweet (even for ice cream). Two, I am not a fan of the cones (the waffle cones are decent but the sugar cones are pretty terrible). Also, they put simple syrup in the milkshakes!? I've never ordered one but come on! Why would you mess with your homemade ice cream!! (Disclaimer: I think I was spoiled by the amazing ice cream at Nasto's in Newark after living nearby for a couple of years. My standards for ice cream are very high as a result)

Go to spot for dessert even though I should stay away from dairy :( I had a home made ice cream sandwich...what who does that anymore. The best flavors. I taste about 3-4 different flavors every time I go and always choose something new. I'm always satisfied. They even have a walk up window for those walking dogs or with crying babies!

Um...I love you Torico's. The fiance and I were so happy when you finally reopened last year. You make me happy that I don't have to go all the way to Journal Sq to get ube ice cream. Although in the summer with the long lines you are sometimes out of that flavor but that's ok. That's how good you are. I also love the pralines & cream which has just the right amount of crunch and not being too overly sweet. Same for the sorbet flavors. In the summer my ideal afternoon is having an ice cream cone from Torico's and walking around JC. With the variety of flavors and great location, how could this place not make you happy?

i was in the area and i was looking for a dessert place since kraverie was closed and i wanted crepes from there. yelp pointed me to torico's and i decided to give it a shot. i love the fact that this place is like a mom and pop's ice cream shop. they have plenty of flavors and they give out samples. some of the flavors i never heard of (albeit not as exotic as chinatown ice cream factory). when you walk in, you see lots of colorful signs and also all of the ice cream fridges. the colorful signs was definitely a very welcome sign. the people working there weren't too friendly though. they weren't rude either, but i expected more from an ice cream shop where a lot of families and children frequent. what i thought of the ice cream i sampled: papaya - the flavor was really light and i couldn't really taste the flavor. i was expecting something stronger, but the little taste it did have, it didn't taste too good. pound cake - this was tasty, but again, the flavor is really light and i expected something stronger and more distinctive. i ended up getting a scoop of this, but it wasn't anything out of this world. it was more like vanilla with a hint of pound cake. i think i saw some pound cake pieces in there, but it wasn't enough to tell. it would be cool if they had actual chunks inside. green tea - i love green tea and i try to eat it in whatever form is available to me. the stronger the green tea flavor, the better. this green tea was really light in flavor and i was really disappointed because i was expecting a strong flavor. the flavor just wasn't there and again, really disappointing to me. i feel like this flavor was light on purpose since the green tea flavor might be too bitter and strong for non-asians that aren't used to the taste of real green tea. peanut butter banana - i am not sure about the first part since i only had a sample of this, but the banana flavor was overpowering and i didn't like it at all. only get this if you like banana a lot. peach (and possibly cream. i forgot the name.) - this was again really light in flavor and i felt like the flavor was non-existent. for two scoops it was $4. after tax was $5 and change. i don't think the price is worth it. all of the flavors were really bland and tasteless. if you are in the area, it's worth it, but i wouldn't come here if it's out of your way since the flavors aren't anything special. if you want amazing/strong flavorful ice cream flavors (flavors like the flavors you see here), i would suggest chinatown ice cream factory. i am not affiliated with chinatown ice cream factory so just a disclaimer.

Awesome smooth and creamy ice cream! Too bad they were out of Ube...that was the flavor I wanted to try. But their other exotic fruit flavors like Mamey and Jackfruit were great! The freshly made waffle bowl made it that much better. Will definitely be back! They have a great selection of flavors.

I curse the day I tried pralines and cream. Can't stop. Won't stop. I only go to downtown yogurt instead when I don't want to walk as far or if I'm trying to be "healthy"

I love supporting AWESOME home-made mom n pop ice cream parlors in Jersey City. Ive been here a handful of times and am always overwhelmed by the huge variety they have here. Must try: Dulce de Leche and Coconut milkshake. Im salivating thinking about it. One summer day I was really craving a milkshake. Walked in and the really nice girl working there let me try several different flavors. On hot summer nights this place usually has a line out the door. I also like the seasonal flavors that a lot of places wouldn't have year round, like pumpkin pie. The last time I went there with Vineet S, it was rainy and cold, but we shared the pumpkin pie and pound cake. Never too cold for Torics's. I was craving ice cream last night and it took a lot to resist walking over to Torico's!

This was a summer time staple for me. I love all of their ice creams. You can tell they use quality ingredients. I like that most of their flavors are seasonal with a few year round favorites available as old stand-bys. The waffle cones are delicious as are the sundaes. The staff are friendly and despite being insanely busy, never make you feel rushed or like you're being a bother if you want to try a few new flavors. Highly recommend this place. The best in my opinion are the ones with fresh fruit like blueberry cheesecake or strawberry cheesecake. Yum!

Very cute little icecream shop just a few blocks from the Newark Ave strip of JC. I love all of the flavor options. 32 flavors- oh no.. they have many more and they are quite original. I definitely wish I had been visiting JC on a warmer week so I could have justified having ice cream every day. P.s. If you aren't looking to have a stomach full of ice cream, I suggest getting the kiddi size. Small is -- not small.

They offer a variety of flavors from Avocado to Vanilla with Peanut Butter. The pistachio was okay (i've had better at Baskin Robbins). The Vanilla with Peanut Butter was amazing! It should have been a little cooler inside as our ice cream was melting fast and don't like with $10 minimum rule in order to use a credit card. It's about $8 for 2 one scoop ice cream sugar cones (waffle cone is more). A bit pricey as one cone cost as much as 1 gallon of ice cream.

Soooo amazing! Finally a good ice cream spot in JC...thanks Torico for re-opening!! Luckily also a 1/2 mile walk from my place so I don't feel too guilty eating here every chance I get :-)

Torico is one of those places that you just can't pass up on...the ice cream is SO good, that you'll have to go back to taste all the different yummy varieties. You have a choice of the regulars like vanilla and chocolate and also non standards like jackfruit and soursop. I have had the ice cream as well as the sorbet, and let me tell you they are equally as good! My girlfriend had the brownie bowl, oh my goodness - what heaven! A warm brownie topped by different ice cream flavors of your liking...what more can I say about that?!?

Great staff. Love that they come up with different sundaes depending on the season. Just had the peppermint mocha sundae. Great combination.

my friend lives across the street from here, but for whatever reason everytime I come over we always just cook at home or go out. So since Hurricane Sandy has knocked out power from my apartment, my friends have graciously opened their doors to me for the week. I have been eyeing this place for some time and made the plunge tonight and went (before the mandatory 7pm curfew). It was fantastic ice cream. I got the chocolate chunk and coffee cookie - The coffee cookie is like cookie and cream ice cream but with coffee ice cream!!! and when the dunkin donuts coffee line was still out the door by the grove street PATH - this hit the spot. But I still needed my coffee fix and got the caffe latte - again very good. My friend got the tamarind - which was unique and pineapple coconut - tasted like summer in your mouth. The atmosphere in here is great and so cute. In the summer lines are out the door. So happy I got to try this place - FINALLY! *Enjoy*

Best ice cream in JC, hands down. This place has amazing ice cream! A few years ago I found Torico, and I was amazed at their selection and quality. They recently remodeled, and the new Torico is even better! The new Torico is clean, new, stylish, and spacious. They have flavors that are creative, new, and delicious. Mamey, guava, lychee, and ube are just a few of the unique flavors created in Torico. They also have seasonal flavors that are amazing like egg nog (which is sooooo good). The only negative is that the lines on summer nights can be long (10-15mins tops), but don't worry, it will be well worth it.

Possibly one of my favorite places in Jersey City. Great ice cream. So many flavors to choose from. The people who work there are top notch. Nicest people ever. Gonna keep this review short and sweet. I love Torico's!

  • Kay T.

nice place,PRICY and always packed no matter what time or day of the week it is. Im not into all the exotic/fancy flavors like "poppyseed" but the cool thing about this place is they don't mind if you test everything out and then settle for something like "Vanilla" lol. The people behind the counter are always friendly and serve with a smile. My Fav flavors so far are the Rum and Raisin and Pound cake. On my fat days I usually get those flavors in a waffle basket!! YYYYYYuuummmm!!!!!!!!!

  • AJ S.

Best Gelato in the Universe. I usually get the warm Hot Fudge Brownie with Cheesecake Gelato on top. It's pretty much Heaven. Pretty much all their flavors rock!

What's your flava? Tell me what's your flava? (Sorry... I had to!) Downtown Jersey City is lucky to have such a delicious ice cream shop in the neighborhood, tucked on a street corner right off of Newark Ave. I am a huge fan because of all of the 50+ flavas, literally! There are many to choose from. My personal favorite flavor here is Ube (Filipino Purple Yam), and I think they do it better than the Philippine ice cream giant Magnolia.... a huge feat. Some days the line can be insanely long and out the door and their outdoor window helps that. However, Torico's has a pretty wide schedule as far as open and close times go so it is easy to find a time where it is not slammed (hint, not Friday night when its 85* degrees out). Best ice cream shop downtown, hands down!

FACT: Was a shift manager at an Ice Cream parlor near my hometown for one year and 4 summers back in the day. Torico's took me back to the days of coming home smelling sweet with ice cream on my elbows. I freakin' love ice cream and have a taste for good quality. As far as soft serve goes, personally, nothing comes close to my Rita's chocolate custard, but for hard cream Torico's blew me away. A friend brought over a pint of the Pound Cake for an after dinner treat the other day. It was really sweet, but not overwhelming. We had to forcefully put it away as it started to disappear at an alarming rate. Today I had a cone of the Avocado ice cream! I think it climbed to the top of my list of new awesome discoveries. Such a nice light green color with the same delicious creaminess you get from real avocados and the right hint of sweetness - not overdone at all. I asked for a taster spoon of the ginger, though surprisingly so good, I decided on avocado. Love that we don't have to wait until the fall for pumpkin pie. They take credit with NO minimum charge. The service is good. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to mix flavors in a small cone. I missed my always-go-to chocolate, but the one I chose was yummy enough that I didn't miss it THAT much. The day's not over and my sweet tooth is craving it again. Bad news bears.

Okay - maybe its because my guy doesnt eat desserts (yup... I know. Lucky for him, he has redeeming qualities). I really wanted the soft-serve in peanut butter but they couldnt make it (not sure if they were out or if it was broken... I just was aghast and pouted a bit) - and I finally settled on the peanutbutter banana chocolate (or something like that) of the hard-scoop ice cream. Im a sucker for anything peanut butter and this guys delivered a strong swirl.. I still would have preferred something a bit more lip-smacking, but it still satisfied... and for someone who "doesnt do" desserts... my guy ate well more than half of that cup.

Went here when my A/C was still on the fritz and I had to get the hell out of my apartment to cool down. And nothing like a good, local homemade ice cream shop to hit the spot. The few times I have walked by on a hot night it looked like Studio 54 in the 1970s - lines be out the door and people were gonna wait till they got in. Luckily when we went the line was minimal. and there there were a ton of flavors to choose from and they were damn delicious. The prices are what you expect at a place like this - but they don't skimp on their scoops!

  • Sara G.

Homemade Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream. Need I say more? It really doesn't get much better than this. Super friendly staff and even though it'll take you ages to figure out what you want to get -- (do I want the chocolate peanut butter or vanilla peanut butter?? oh wait! there's CHOCOLATE BANANA PEANUT BUTTER, TOO?!!?!) -- you always end up happy in the end. While they've got so many flavors that it's seemingly impossible to choose, just know there are no bad decisions made at Torico's.

Fantastic flavors, ice cream textures, and service. The ice cream here is not cheap, but neither are they ingredients. The ice creams here are rich and creamy and smooth. The avocado ice cream is a must try and so is the Ube. My boyfriend and I love to come here after dinner on Grove street.

    (5)
  • Danie R.

They have a ton of amazing flavors as it is, but you can also create your own flavor! They mix it on the spot. My mister got the cheesecake and although confused at first that he saw syrup being put into ice cream and then mixed, when he got it he was happy. Between the rest of us, we got ginger, choco peanut butter, and toffee. We also sampled a few flavors (they give you a spoonful) including black sesame. Alllll were awesome. This spot makes me miss living in JC!

After my Mom gave me a taste of ice cream as an infant I've been addicted! I am a harsh ice cream critic and its the one food that I don't give glowing reviews frequently. I had heard about Torico's on Yelp a few weeks ago and bookmarked it for a future trip. Last night we went on a search for the place after a great Jazz set at the Liberty House - part of the Jersey City Council's summer show series. Unfortunately we did not have the address or technology to help us find the place so we went home. Today I went back to search for it and found it! Its a small parlor on the corner of 1st and Erie Street near Grove Street PATH station, a block away from Newark Ave. Very quint decore and seating both inside and outside. The flavors range from the basic vanilla (with vanilla bean specs - the best) to a more eclectic coffee cookie, green tea and pineapple cream. Each of the flavors I tried both in homemade ice cream and gelato were creamy and light. Soft serve, and sobert are also available. Be prepared to indulge but there is kiddie size if you aren't too adventurous. The price is moderately pricey which is not surprising considering the area. The servers are friendly and the music inside is not too loud if you choose to sit. Parking is a bit difficult - on the street - but manageable for city-folk. Overall a good experience and good taste.

I have been here many times, many years ago, and had many great memories with someone who is now my wife. Coming back here for an after dinner treat just brought back great memories! The interior and exterior has been refinished since I last visited, prices have increased quite a bit, but the variety of flavors, friendliness of the staff, and the sheer nostalgia of this establishment in this neighborhood makes this place great. If you like Filipino halo-halo, try a blend of Coconut Cream + Ube - a hundred times better than the tubs you buy at the stores.

  • Rusty R.

Best of the Best. Fantastic flavors, from the usual to the unique. Creamy and delicious homemade ice cream, friendly workers (mostly kids) behind the counter, and tastefully decorated in a cozy ice cream parlor way. Sometimes a long line (but it moves quickly) in the summer, but once you taste this ice cream you'll understand why.

  • Mary Grace T.

So glad Torico's is in the area. I tried the Mamey and I was very surprised by it. I was expecting it to be more of a fruity flavor but it was mellow, almost like Ube (taro aka purple yam) Sometimes it's kind of a long wait even though there are 4 people working. I blame that a little more on the customers taking forever to decide though because there are so many interesting flavors. On a hot summer day, this place is very busy but there isn't of space to just stay and hang out unless it's outside. My personal favorite is the chocolate peanut butter and the boyfriend loves the mango sorbet. I wish my waistline was willing to try all the flavors though. Slowly but surely... ICE CREAMMMMMM!!!!

  • Winnie F.

A neighborhood gem! Too many flavors to choose from but don't miss the chocolate peanut butter and the pistachio.

  • Jonathan P.

Torico's is AMAZING. Always fresh, always a wide variety of flavors available. I've been going there since I was a kid (used to look a lot different back then). Although the exterior has changed, their ice cream hasn't. My personal favorite is their mango ice cream. For anybody with diet restrictions, their sugar-free ice cream is just as delicious. Definitely a way to feel less guilty while still getting your ice cream/dessert fix. Once this Polar Vortex is gone, I'm visiting Torico's to celebrate!

  • Jenny K.

All the flavors you could ever look for. Okay, maybe I exaggerate but Torico is definitely the top ice cream spot in the neighborhood. There's not much seating area, but I typically like to eat my ice cream walking back home so the seating doesn't phase me. It gets crowded on the weekends, especially in the evening/night, but the line moves quickly and there's plenty of people working to move customers along. Please note, there is a credit card minimum of $15 or something around that amount, so best to bring cash.

  • Bloss C.

One of the first 60+ plus days this Spring necessitates hitting up an ice cream place I have never been too. Torico's is big, with about 6 tables and a ton of flavors, some of them unique. I wanted to sample more (like the avocado flavor) but they were pretty busy so I went with a safe bet, poundcake. The ice cream was very creamy and on the sweet side. I will be back to try some on the less conventional flavors. Under $8 for two small sugar cones of homemade ice cream is not a bad deal at all, and the small cone is actually quiet large.

  • Tristan S.

Best Green Tea and Ube gelato I've ever had. I am very particular with the green tea, and I must say their recipe is spot on! Perfect balance! They marry the slight bitterness of green tea with just the right consistency of cream and sweetness. The ube is fantastic! Pair that up with the green tea and you'll taste bliss!!

    (5)
  • Nadia F.

Nice variety of flavors. I got the black sesame, which was pretty good, my son got the avocado, which was decent, husband got double chocolate, which was ok. This place is decent if you're in the area. But nothing outstanding.

  • Marissa S.

I heart you Toricos. It is dangerous that we live so close to each other. Dangerous. You have the friendliest staff and the most delicious ice cream. I can do without the rude children, but that isn't your fault. And it doesn't keep me away. I also love that you are open until 11pm.... Which is also dangerous.

I tried Torico last summer and was pretty underwhelmed. After reading all these posts and high reviews, I decided to check out the place. I know they make their own ice cream, but I did not expect it to be that much different. They had many flavors to choose from, but that time I just wanted a coffee milkshake. After making it for me and paying, I took my first sip and I thought they gave me the wrong milkshake. I did not taste any coffee at all. I went back in and asked the clerk and she told me that they just add coffee flavoring, but nothing else so it would not taste exactly like coffee. I didn't really get it, but they let me get another one so I chose strawberry. That didn't taste like strawberries either. I just gave up after that time and have gone to other places around the neighborhood. I might give it a shot one more time this summer once the weather gets better. P.S. When I went, they had a $10 minimum for credit card charges. I had to purchase a gift card and then pay for my milkshake. Just an FYI in case anyone doesn't have cash on them.

This was my only my second time here....but it will be my last. Not sure if it was an off night or more of the norm...the service drove me to leave without getting any ice cream. I asked for a regular size and asked for the ice cream to be divided between 2 flavors...I was told that was only an option with the large. I said I didn't want a large, walked out and proceeded to the new ice cream shop on Grove St where you can get a regular size with 2 flavors. Good luck to them...they are no longer the only option for ice cream in the neighborhood.

What is there to say about Torico's!? Its awesome! Homemade ice cream, in a million different flavors...yes please! I've be coming here for years and I do not care if its the dead of winter! I'm not very adventurous with my flavors but I've never had anything bad. Jeez this is making wanna go back now!

Good stuff. I had just moved to Jersey City at the time this place was re-opening during the summer of 2012. Apparently, it was either really popular before the renovations or else Jersey City had a shortage of ice cream. Because when it finally re-opened, the line was out the door and snaked around the street. We waited about 45 minutes from the time we got in line until the time we had our ice creams in hand. At first bite, I can't say it was worth the wait, but I kept going back here for a couple of reasons: 1) The lines got shorter over time; 2) No minimum on credit card transactions; 3) Really friendly service; 4) Free samples; 5) Prices are comparable to other ice cream shops; 6) Tons of solid options (no pun intended). Perhaps the most exotic flavor I saw (and tasted) was avocado. Those are the highlights, my fellow yelpers. They're also open pretty late, which is convenient if you're getting off at Grove St. PATH and want a snack after dinner.

I love ice cream!!! The quality for the ice cream here is perfect. Homemade, not too thick, that good sweet taste like you know your life is alright and going to Torico was the best decision you made. They make ice cream the way ice cream is suppose to be made. They have unique and interesting flavors. Being a Filipino decent, I am honored they have Ube Ice Cream. You wouldn't think that it is good but it is GOOD. My regular favorite is the mango sorbet with sprinkles. They have a fat free - sugar free soft serve which is delicious!! There are so many flavors and variety that you definitely have to come back again and again and again.... The prices are great and you can buy pint and quarter sizes to go of the popular flavors. You can also try free samples of every flavor when ordering inside. I recommend if the line is long inside to go to the window outside and order from there because its way faster. Summer is coming up and I already know this place is going to be packed.

This is an awesome ice cream shop. It has many different flavors and includes non-dairy options. I would say it is definitely more of a setting for personal interaction (dates, hanging w/ friends and/or family). There is always a line out of the door at this place, but the staff is great. It must be fun to work in an ice cream shop ;-)

This is the go to ice cream spot in Jersey City. They have a huge variety to choose from and they are all awesome. They also have italian ice!! The service is good and the place is large so when the lines start up in the summer you don't feel overcrowded. Also love that it is open late!

  • Christine T.

Probably my all time favorite ice cream place in JC. The staff is cool and friendly. The flavors are unique! My favorites are avocado, coffee cookies, dulce de leche, and the strawberry/blueberry cheesecake flavors. I've been told the milkshakes are awesome here as well. Torico's is my usual go-to place after dinner at taquiera, which is not too far from here.

I ordered a custom ice cream birthday cake for my boyfriend for his birthday on saturday. He doesn't like regular birthday cake so i thought this would be perfect. We both like chocolate M&M blizzards i thought it would be cute to have M&Ms on the cake since it was the first thing we bonded over. I also requested if they could draw a mustang and/or a ford raptor since he is into cars as well. I thought it would be a cute surprise! I went to the store and they told me they forgot to draw the car on the cake and apologized. I was very disappointed because i knew he would of loved it. I needed the cake that day because it was going to snow the next day and plus I don't live anywhere near Jersey city! Trying to find a custom ice cream cake place is very hard to come by so that is why i didnt mind getting it at Jersey City! I didn't tell him about what the cake was supposed to have because he loved the cake anyway. The cake was very delicious. It does have to melt a little bit and use regular spoons! The staff was very friendly and the store is beautiful.

Open again and just in time for the summer!! Torico's is still awesome tasting, and my new to Toricos eating partner agreed. We even saw a guy with a foot injury and no crutches hop over and wait in line even though he only had use of one leg. ...That's some Torico's love. I am very impressed with their great selection of tropical fruit flavored sorbets and ice creams like mamey, jackfruit, soursop, lychee, and coconut. And the banana boat is great to share with a date; 3 flavors, 3 toppings, banana, whipped cream, and a cherry. Even though it was re-opening night and they were packed, our service was still amazing.

Ive been here twice. The ice cream is good and they have interesting flavors but I have definitely had better ice cream. My friend got the strawberry and banana smoothie, and that was really good actually. The coffee cookie flavor was good.

I love Torico's, let me count the ways... I love that Torico's is now open year round... I like the renovations they did. Love the super fun colors... love the flavors! The ONLY thing I think they could improve upon is to start making Cannoli ice cream. Pretty please! Or maybe a suggestion box for a "flavor of the month?"

Went out to get a coffee on a cold & rainy day, ended up getting delicious coffee cookie ice cream! They keep the place nice and toasty inside in the winter, so no matter the season you're still able to enjoy your ice cream. The first thing I noticed was large flavor selection. Whether you're in the mood for something chocolatey or something fruity, something simple or a more unique flavor, Torico has what you're looking for here. I had the coffee cookie which was amazing. My boyfriend got the mint cookie, I wish this was a flavor available at all ice cream places!! Really creamy but not too rich. They also offer soft serve, but we didn't try any. I'll definitely be going back to try it! Prices were reasonable. They have some cool window decals with fun facts about fruit and ice cream. It's such a cute little shop, I'm so glad to have this place in the neighborhood!

  • Cheri W.

Impressive flavor selection! Easy to get your fix with the walk-up window. Made by people who clearly have a true passion for freezing milk. And who can blame them? Everyday is better with ice cream.

Love, love, love their Ice Cream! Cute little shop close to the path station. I had mint chocolate chip and their pumpkin. Both were delicious. I would definitely go there again if I find myself in Jersey City. When I walked in the shop smelled like waffles! I knew right away I would not be disappointed. The server was also very nice and helpful when I tried different samples of flavors.

Great service, good ice cream/gelato selections and the prices are reasonable... for the zip code. I mean it is what it is. I bought two medium size cups of ice cream for a little over $10. Ummm... I guess I'm paying for the "unique" flavors but my buddies Ben & Jerry never disappoint. AND I get the hook up at my neighborhood Pathmark and sometimes buy B&J for about $3. Torico is a good place for ice cream but be prepared. You will be paying for the ice cream, service and the rent. I mean at least they give you free samples :-)

Great home made ice cream. Bought a butterscotch/chocolate ice cream cake here and it was delicious.

An ice cream shop. With real ice cream. Not that fro-yo b.s.! 70 degree weather had me craving some ice cream and yelp led me here. Good job yelp! They had tons of ice cream flavors and the shop smelled like homemade waffle cones. I was on a chocolate milkshake mission and it was quite tasty! But I'll be back soon to start working my way through all of the flavors.

Went here after dinner last night, and had the chocolate chip mint, my husband had the chocolate chunk and son had the cherry vanilla. I felt that while the texture of the ice cream was indisputably creamy and smooth, the taste of all three flavors were bland. Maybe we chose wrong? I guess I've been going to too many places like Ample Hills and Emack & Bolio's lately and expected more. Great place for the kids, though, with it's outdoor seating, and it's pricing wasn't outrageous like some other places, so...

Love this place--even more so because it's open year-round! People talk about having decision paralysis when you have too many options to choose from. You'll definitely run into that here. A two-scoop of homemade rocky road, served with chocolate syrup, whipped cream and the cherry on top is where it's at for me. I sometimes mix that up and get two scoops of chocolate peanut butter (and the swirls of peanut butter are so tasty!) or chocolate marshmallow. The cakes are pretty good, too! Snagged one for my mom's 55th birthday a couple weeks back, and she was still talking about it just the other day.

Best ice cream in town! Not overly trendy with awesome flavors. Cones are perfect and did not crumble after a few bites.

While I generally enjoy my Torico treats, I can't say that I have been consistently happy. My favorites are mint cookie and chocolate peanut butter. When they are good, they are damn good. But on multiple occasions, I have encountered icy chunks! There is no excuse for ice cream that is being sold at this price to be icy. Another inconsistency is in the milkshake department. My fiance is a milkshake fanatic. He, too, has had icy shards in his drink. On top of that, his milkshake last night was basically slightly-thickened peanut butter-flavored milk. There was nowhere near enough ice cream in it. Apparently, as the employee was making it, another employee approached her and suggested adding another half-scoop of ice cream. The employee making it declined. Why wouldn't the amount of ice cream in a milkshake be standard? And if the amount of ice cream in the milkshake last night is the Torico standard, patrons should be forewarned that they are going to pay way too much for peanut butter milk. I keep going to Torico because, again, when it is good, it's great! But when it isn't, I feel seriously ripped off.

This place doesn't really need any more reviews...I think the 247 stellar reviews before me speak for themselves. But! Last night I tried ube ice cream and, ladies, gentleman and everyone in between, it was freaking fantastic. Pronounced 'oo-beh', ube is a purple yam popular in Filipino culture. It makes for goldilocks ice cream; not too sweet, a hint of fruitiness, a tad of vanilla. I had it dipped in chocolate shell, which sealed the deal (ha! I'm allowed to laugh at my own corny jokes, right?) Anyways my point is, if you're on the fence about branching out from your usual, give ube a go. You're bound to be pleasantly surprised.

Yep it's a little pricey and always crowded in the summer--always. Now that we've got that out of the way... The staff is unfailingly helpful and friendly. Ridiculous variety of flavors and they'll let you try every single one...if you can stand being THAT guy. Have some decency and don't do that when the line is around the block :) Milkshakes are amazing, flavors are intense, and the texture is always perfect. PLEASE do yourself a favor and get a scoop of coconut and a scoop of avocado in a waffle cone. I get overwhelmed by food sometimes but, really, I almost had to sit down for that. Worth braving the crowds and worth the price.

For my 200th review, I wanted to be sure I wrote about something very near and dear to my heart: Ice Cream. Now, I am very critical of ice cream and I usually don't like it... I was an ice cream scientist/formulator/expert taster (with titles and medals!) for several years... sooo I'm a little picky. That being said, this place is pretty darn good! They make their ice cream themselves in the back/basement... major points there! Very important as far as quality is concerned! They have a vast selection of the traditional favorites like chocolate, vanilla to more exotic flavors like cherry pistachio or papaya. They also have italian ices, slushies, sorbet, coffee, and soft serve! I don't normally recommend soft serve- usually it doesn't meet the standard of identity of ice cream, but I don't know about their soft serve in particular.. so whatever floats your boat! The menu options here are literally limitless. Be warned: this place gets SUPER crowded on those hot summer nights and parking in the area can be diffiult, but Torico is definitely worth the wait!

Probably the best gelato place in the Grove area. The store is situated on the corner of Erie and Bay, approximately a 5 minute walk from the Grove Path. You should walk up from Newark to Erie. There are a few mom and pop shops along the walk. There are a myriad of gelato flavors here; so much so ... I doubt I'll ever be able to try them all in this lifetime. The asian influenced flavors (i.e. lychee and green tea) do not have a strong flavor to them. Instead, I would recommend that you get everything else. One of my favorite flavors to date is the coconut gelato. Enjoy!

Ice cream is delicious. Service is friendly, although sometimes hard to tell where the line begins. Not much seating inside, but since 1 scoop = 2, and 2 scoops = 5; a walk around the block may be warranted while you enjoy your homemade ice cream. There are a ton of flavors to choose from including the classics and some that are a bit more adventurous. The butter pecan is phenomenal, and the many varieties of chocolate all feature that rich, homemade chocolate taste. They also offer gelato, ice cream cakes/sandwiches, and it looked like they offered these variety packs of ice cream (almost like ice cream cupcakes). That may be a great way to try a bunch of flavors. Certainly the best ice cream shop in JC, although I don't think it's worth waiting in the line that sometimes wraps around the corner. Of course I think the only thing worth waiting in a line around the corner for would be a Guns n Roses reunion.

This is my favorite ice cream spot in Jersey City. It's pretty popular so you may encounter a line going out of the door. Don't fret, the people behind the counter are very friendly and keep the lines moving quickly. They have a wide variety of flavors, anywhere from the standard chocolate to more unique flavors like avocado, jackfruit and ube. Try the avocado shake.

I've been here 3 times this week, which is a testament in itself. I have a HUGE sweet tooth. If I'm going out to dinner, you can bet I'm ordering a dessert. It's no surprise that I love this place. Torico's boasts homemade ice cream and they always have a wide variety on hand. They range from your standard (i.e. cookies and cream, vanilla, chocolate chip cookie dough, etc) to unique (i.e. mamay, ube, jackfruit, etc). They also have soft serve ice creams [which you can mix with a syrup (i'm guessing) to create your own custom flavor; and they offer a small variety of Italian ices and other novelties (like ice cream sandwiches and ice cream cakes). When I first started coming here, I ALWAYS ordered mint chocolate chip. It's one of my favorite flavors, and I order it every time I go into any ice cream shop. At Torico's, MCC is amazing. First of all it's green (!) and they have small and large chocolate chips scattered throughout. It's so creamy, and definitely one of the best I've tasted. Recently, I've decided to start trying some other flavors. Chocolate chip cookie dough is my 2nd fave now. I only order it from here. The vanilla ice cream is not overly sweet, and there's plenty of cookie dough pieces, but not so many chocolate chips. I've also tasted one of their newer flavors: banana peanut butter chocolate chip. It was heaven. The ice cream had a mild banana flavor, which is great since I hate that artificial banana taste. There was generous amounts of peanut butter in my scoop and so many chocolate chips. One scoop wasn't enough. I've heard employees rave about the pound cake flavor, so I decided to sample it, but it was too sweet for me to have a whole scoop of. I could see why people would like it, but it just wasn't for me. The employees are young and cheerful, and always happy to help the customers. It gets VERY busy in there, and they do a pretty good job of moving the line. I'm usually in and out in 8-10 minutes [when the line wraps around the store]. Do not hesitate to ask for samples! They'll gladly let you taste the flavors. :) The only reason I'm dropping one star is cause some flavors are a hit or miss. I was excited when I saw the new chocolate hazelnut flavor. I was going to get a double scoop immediately, when my boyfriend stopped and suggested I asked for a sample first. Good thing I listened. I expected it to taste like nutella, but it tasted more like hazelnut. I could barely taste the chocolate. Again, good thing they offer tastings. The other reason is it's a little pricey. It's homemade ice cream, so I guess it's justified. But my boyfriend paid $16 for 2 double scoop cones and 1 single scoop + tip. I still think it was worth it. If you're in the downtown JC area, definitely try it out for dessert. How can you say no to dessert? ;) Extra tips: If it's your first time, avoid going on weekends at night. The line wraps around the store and it gets very crowded. It's really hard to see all the flavors when there's people standing in front of all the cases. There's a window that customers can order from outside. I'm not sure they still use it, but the line there was always much shorter. There is a $10 credit card minimum. Carry cash if you're just buying for yourself. I saw that they started a new Happy Hour menu! It varies, so stop in and check it out.

Can't say enough good things about this place. They've been around forever and haven't gotten complacent. The menu is creative, the ice cream fresh and made onsite. Prices are reasonable for the quality. My only complaint is that it is, unfortunately, walking distance to my apartment.

I have lived in Chill Town a long time and Toricos is by far the best ice cream I have ever had. It was closed for almost 2 years for renovations a few years ago and it was sorely missed. There was almost a march on City Hall as we thought it was a permit issue. Great flavors, quality is great. I just can't go back to store bought ice cream and feel the new ice creams places in JC just aren't as good despite the "press" they have been receiving. My flavor is Rocky Road but I love mint chip and cookies and cream.

A medium cup of ice cream at any other establishment would equate to 2 scoops, maybe 2.5. At Torico, I'm pretty sure the lady behind the counter gave me 6...and it was 6 of the best scoops of Butter Pecan I have ever had. More ofter than not there's a line around the corner, but I was able to get in and out, fairly quickly after an early dinner. Now I know what all the hype's about...I'll be back. Next time, I want to try Pineapple Coconut or maybe one of their ice cream sandwiches. Num. Drooling already.

This place has homemade ice cream and is like 1 block from my house. 5 stars. Review over. Psyche. Cherry Chunk is where it's at! I always go in here being like i"m gonna get the fat free soft serve, and then I leave with a huge cone of the most creamy, fattening, mouth watering, I can't believe this is only ice cream ice cream of course covered in chocolate sprinkles on everything, always. They have so many flavors that range from chocolate to some crazy fruit like mamey, which I didn't try but sounds pretty awesome and they are fo' sho' always out of something because this place has been closed down for 2 years for gutting and fixin uping and now that it's open, everyone and their mother is heading to this joint. It's like the entirety of Jersey City has been without ice cream for 2 years and all of sudden people are going wild, buck wild. Lines have been out the door as of late. I'm sure this will die down. Overall, Torico's is pretty friggin' sweet (get it...sweet). And I'll most definitely be here when I need to get my sugar splurge on! It'll be hard to mess with any other flavors since that Cherry Chunk is so so good but, I just may have to mess with some chocolate peanut butter or pistachio.

I feel a little bit like a traitor because ever since Milk Sugar Love came onto the Jersey City ice cream scene, I've more or less abandoned Torico. However, this used to be my go-to Jersey City ice cream shop, so it's worth a review. I really like the neighborhood feel of Torico and their variety of flavors. A special favorite of mine was their SOURSOP sorbet, since soursop is my favorite tropical fruit. (I think it's time that I investigated to see if soursop is still on their menu...) A close second is their soft-serve ice cream. It's far too easy to get sub-par soft serve nowadays, but Torico does it right. The staff has always been very friendly whenever I've gone, and that really adds a lot to the ice cream parlor experience. In fact, this would have been a 4-star review a few months ago before I discovered organic ice cream heaven via Milk Sugar Love!

Our recent weather has brought on temperatures well above 90 degrees, and Torico is a nice place to cool down. They have a vast variety of homemade flavors to choose from. They do tend to sell out of flavors rather quickly, I remember going early in the afternoon and they were already out of Strawberry. Lines can get long, but I've been lucky that the few times I've went, I haven't really had to wait on line at all. (weekdays around 3/4:00) They have all the traditional flavors and toppings you can think of, and then they have some more unique ones like Avocado, Lychee, Mamey, etc. I've liked almost every flavor I've tried. The Avocado I wasn't crazy about - I've had avocado ice cream before and made it as well, and I think theirs doesn't use enough sugar. It's literally like just eating super cold avocados. So just be sure you LOVE avocado before ordering! The frozen yogurt is a little odd. You read a long list of flavors and it tells you you could choose 2. I was thinking they were actual flavors that would come out of a machine and swirl together. I picked strawberry and lemon. But they just take plain yogurt and then put the flavored syrup on it and mix it together in the same way you'd make a milkshake. The flavor combo when it was completely together like that, didn't taste very good. Plus, with all the mixing, it leads to a very soft and watery frozen yogurt. I myself find the syrups to taste artificial, it's a shame because I love frozen yogurt, but I will stick to their ice cream. They also offer espresso drinks like lattes' and the like. It can get a little pricey, especially if you're feeding a few kids, but you're paying for quality. I'm also deducting a star because the service isn't very good at all. I understand young kids just work here as a summer job, but each time I've been in here, no one has smiled and the young kids working pay more attention to each other/talking/fooling around than they do the customers.

I thought about not writing this updated review but thought you ought to know. My ice cream experience has been unfortunately inconsistent. The banana flavored one and the fat free vanilla in two separate instances were much more creamier in consistency than usual. This also throws the taste off. And when I pointed this out to them. The woman replied the one thing customer services should never say- they said it was fine in turn suggesting that I the customer was wrong. Please train your employees managing customer experience.

Hmm, so I didn't love this as much as other reviewers. I did only go here once so maybe if I gave it another shot I'd end up being more generous in my review. But for my overall experience i'd have to give it a solid 3 stars. The place does offer a bunch of different flavors, everything from classic (Vanilla Peanut Butter) to crazy (Avocado). I went with Vanilla Peanut Butter and my husband got the poundcake. The prices were about on par with what I expected - $7 for 2 kiddie sizes. It seems a bit much, but I feel like it's rare to find a place that advertises homemade ice cream where it's not on the more expensive side. The ice cream just didn't have as much flavor as I was expecting. It was definitely creamy, but it was a bit too airy so it seemed to melt away pretty quickly without leaving much of an impression. The vanilla ice cream actually had specks of vanilla bean but I didn't taste a strong vanilla flavor. The peanut butter at least was very good but I wish the actual ice cream had been tastier. My husband wasn't overly impressed with the pound cake flavor either. I would definitely come back here but I've had better ice cream.

I love this place. The renovations really changed the ambiance in the place.. positively. Went there today and had a small up of ginger over cream which was strong and sweet. And so yummy. Boyfriend had cinnamon which was yummy too. What wasn't yummy was the attitude of the girl who served us. I know that the place is busy and that its fathers day... And you'd rather not be at work, but maybe now you need to reconsider if toricos is the place for you. I will still rate this place 5 stars because the flavors overpower the bad customer service experience. Won't let one apple spoil the rest! The girl who served us the other day was a sweetheart.

This place used to be better, just had a pretty poor experience though. Called to place an order for takeout and they said sure and please hold. 6 min later nobody had returned and I tried calling again every few min for 45 min and the line was busy. Was in a hurry and had to just go there, and manager said someone had turned the phone off and she didn't know why. Worse though, they refused to sell me a quart at the more reasonable price listed on the posted menu on the wall because they were out of quart size containers, and when I asked several times why they can't just put it in two pint containers without charging the much higher price for two pints, finally was told that they no longer sell quarts (though they had not indicated this anywhere on the menu or in the store) as of a week ago, which basically makes their prices outrageous now since pints cost almost as much as quarts had been. Also every other time I have been there they have had a mostly full freezer of pre packages pints which I had hoped would save me time after being unable to order ahead as I needed 5 flavors, and today they had none made at all. Disappointed that one of my previous favorite places has taken such a downward turn.

Mmm. Tried the pumpkin, chocolate, jackfruit (!), ube, ginger, vanilla with peanut butter, cookie dough. Everything was so good. Especially the pumpkin and the chocolate. The jackfruit could have been more strongly flavored, but I don't blame them, not many people like the jackfruit/durian flavor. Only con was they won't give you two flavors in a small, making the already difficult decision process for a commitment-phobe even more excruciating. So after much agonizing, I of course go with vanilla. They have to get this flavor right before anything else. Staff was also really nice and patient. Next time I'll get the chocolate. It was amazing.

I am not adventurous so I got the pound cake and mint chocolate chip flavor. It was delicious but it seemed a bit over-priced and under scooped. I will definitely try the sundae the next time because it seems like a better deal. Even though I saw them put the mix into the waffle maker, I did not like the waffle cones. Sugar ones are far better.

Amazing place is all I have to say.. I am a stickler for good ice cream and I have been on the hunt all summer.. Way back in the day, I remembered this place and used to frequent it alot and then they closed for the reno.... Low and behold even without the mighty Yelp, I stumble across this place bigger and better than the old.. The ice cream is even better than before.. I ordered my favorite which is Strawberry Shortcake sundae and that was through the roof.. This is not your everyday run of the mill of ice cream store.. It's that much better. Cheers.

You really juscan't go wrong here. When you walk into a place and immediately think, I have to have ice cream now just from the smell, well that about sums it up. Not to mention, whoever runs this place and does the hiring is a genius. Every member of that team I have ever dealt with is similing, bright, sweet, and great. I highly reccommend Torico.

Seriously?? Is this real life? I walked in today, totally giddy about this place. I left even happier. The clean, brightly lit shop is just blocks from the Grove Street Path Station. For $9, I ordered one scoop of strawberry on a waffle cone and one scoop Coffee & Cookies, one scoop of Pound Cake on another waffle cone. Man, this homemade ice cream was heavenly. The coffee ice cream was flavorful and the cookie pieces were huge. They tasted homemade and could have used a bit less salt. The Pound Cake flavor was not memorable, next time I'll get the pineapple coconut. The Strawberry was also delicioso. The friendly cashier was willing to let me try every flavor ever. I'm a herb so I only tried three... here goes: Avocado - very fresh and creamy, not super avocado-y though. Would be a nice treat. Ginger - very strong ginger flavor and really good if you like ginger (I do) Jackfruit - what the hell is a jackfruit? **googles** oh, apparently its a tropical fruit. Alas, my next cone will be jackfruit. It was really tangy, very creamy and just yum. Thanks to all the Yelpers who recommended this joint. I shall return!

Great selection of homemade ice cream flavors. I wanted to try the ube ice cream but they had ran out. I ended up going with the rocky road and it hit a spot. The waffle cones are the best. Friendly service as well. We'll have to go back.

I am a huge fan of fresh, homemade ice cream, and this place earns my gushing approval. I was so impressed by all the unique flavors; there's something here to satisfy every taste and craving! I could hardly decide. I chose a cup of chocolate marshmallow drizzled with hot fudge. I usually prefer vanilla-based flavors, but this ice cream looked too good to pass up. It had a perfect chocolate taste and was smooth and creamy, not chalky. The marshmallow fluff swirled throughout was a perfect counterpoint to the chocolate flavor. The hot fudge on top was fresh and not cloyingly sweet. The employees are very friendly, and service is quick! I highly recommend Torico's.

Haven't been here since I was a kid. The place has certainly changed, but I hear it remodeled recently. The ice cream was ok...seriously nothing special. However charging $6 for two scoops is ridiculous! I guess they can get away with it now that the neighborhood is "gentrified."

After seeing this mentioned in the Yelp newsletter and being in the area I decided to stop in. The flavor board creates sensory overload. There were a bunch of things up there that I've never heard of, much less used as ice cream flavors. (Jackfruit? Mamay?) Luckily there was a short line so I had some time to ponder. After consideration I decided to go with flavors I know but are hard to find elsewhere. I settled on a combo of ginger and coconut almond in a cup with graham cracker crumb topping. It was delicious! The ginger was creamy and had a nice balance between sweetness and the ginger spice. The coconut almond was a creamy coconut ice cream base with slivered almonds mixed in. The flavors mixed well together. The texture of the ice cream was outstanding! Light and creamy and not a hint of iciness. The service was prompt and friendly. The server made sure that the topping got all the way down to the bottom of the cup so that there was texture in every bite. Yes, it was pricier than other places ($6 for a two scoop cup with one topping) but the quality is worth the extra cost. I don't often get ice cream cravings, but next time I do I may be tempted to make the 20 minute drive to JC.

My experience of this place wasn't too pleasant. It seemed like every flavor we wanted was out of stock. We tried getting Mamey, Mango, Coconut, or some other "exotic" flavors. Then i got my cookies and cream and my wife got a coffee flavored ice cream. First of all, it was over priced. Second, her's needed more sugar. And mine was pretty standard tasting, nothing great nor bad. So for the price, the wait, and the frustrating feeling that i got for waiting longer because they didn't have any of the flavors we wanted, made my experience a bad one. I will try this place once more, but if it still has the same problems, well then I probably won't come back anymore.

What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said... They got me into eating ice cream again after a 5 year sabbatical. I happened to be walking through the neighborhood on an extremely hot day, and the cute exterior caught my eye, so I thought why not? Well when I got inside I was taken aback by the shear quantity of flavors as well as how unusual some of them were... avacado?... jackfruit? After trying some of these "exotic flavors" I knew that not only was I once again an ice cream person, but that Torico's ice cream was MY ice cream place. Seriously this place is so good I have waited in line in the winter willingly (the line always moves very quickly though). Suffice to say I'm a huge fan!

I didn't think there was anything exceptional about Torico's ice cream. Good, not bad, but maybe it was just the flavor I had. Best part of Torico's is that they have LOTS of flavors, even odd ones such as avocado, ube, mamey, etc. However, they run out of flavors towards the end of the day, so go early if you want to keep your flavor options open. It gets crowded during rush hours, so try to avoid those times. Service was great. They remain composed even when packed, and they don't rush you or give you rude glares if you ask for samples before making a decision. Few seats inside and out. I'd be willing to give Torico's another try when it's not so crowded. Any one have any flavor suggestions?

  • Jenn G.

Love that everything is homemade. Love that they have so many flavors to choose from. However, the ice cream flavors could be more intense. My boyfriend got cheesecake, which tasted like a slightly tangy vanilla. It lacked the creamcheesiness of cheesecake. The cherry pistachio was also lacking in vibrance, barely tasting like either pistachio or cherries (though still enjoyable). The texture of the ice cream was also very soft and airy, causing it to melt so quickly that you have to scarf it down to avoid a drippy mess. The homemade waffle cones were a definite win: light and crispy. A solid place for ice cream. I'll be back to try the poundcake and chocolate hazelnut flavors.

This is as good as neighborhood ice cream gets. Ice cream doesn't need to be fancy. Artisinal ice-cream sounds neat, but what we want is a cone topped off with your-choice-of-ice-cream, sitting outside and perhaps an espresso to follow. Torico's has them all. It's the perfect small town ice-cream shop in downtown Jersey City. The people that work there are friendly and entertain giving you samples until you make your choice. There are enough flavors to chose from and even some soft-serve ice-cream too. And inexpensive!

I'm so glad I 'yelped' for an ice cream parlor because we came across Torico's homemade ice cream and it was ABSOLUTELY delicious! Best homemade ice cream I've tried so far. They have many unique flavors like mamay, tamarind, guava, and passion fruit-Holy Moly! I would highly recommend that you include this place if visiting Jersey City. Enjoy!!!

Very tasty homemade ice cream.. Haven't found many ice cream places with the very different flavors they offer here. Had green tea and ube.. Very good and not overly sweetened

My friend and I went yesterday for the first time and we both had a great experience. The atmosphere is that of a typical ice cream place- small, warm colors, and clean. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. In terms of the ice cream itself, they have a ton of flavors to choose from. From classics like cookies and cream to more unique flavors like avocado, Torico truly has something for everyone. I got a small bowl of blueberry cheesecake which was fantastic. The ice cream was smooth and creamy, had little cheesecake pieces inside, and had a delicious blueberry swirl throughout. My friend got a milkshake (you can choose any ice cream flavor and make it into a shake!). He got cookie coffee and loved it. Overall, we both really enjoyed what we got and will definitely be back to try more flavors soon. Something to keep in mind though- you can't charge anything below $10. They let you get away with it for the first time if you don't have cash on you, but make sure to bring cash so you don't run into this problem.

A lil pricey, but you get what you pay for. Fresh home made ice cream made on site. Awesome staff and super selection. Try the affogato with peppermint ice cream for a sweet coffee treat.

Torico's is a neighborhood ice cream parlor with delicious home-made ice cream that really hits the spot on a hot summer night. One question, though. Why have you been CLOSED for so long? How long do renovations really take? And why would you shut your doors during the summer? I want answers!!!!

I'd give this place no stars if I could. So after a two-year wait, I was ecstatic to see this place finally reopen. I guess they didn't bribe a building inspector with enough money. Anyway, I went in today for the first time and couldn't believe how bad the service was. It was so bad that I walked out before ordering. There were two employees standing there looking lost, one was learning how to use the credit card machine, and the other girl was slower than Christmas - all this while the line was almost out the door. I came to the conclusion that Torico's isn't that good, it's just people here put up with crap service for a mediocre product.

Good selection of flavors, I tried the purple yam and the wife the lychee. I prefer the lychee flavor as the yam was a bit mild. But there are few flavors off the beaten track worth trying.

Yumm yumm yumm... This is what I would like to say the coffee flavor and the mint one is the yumm yumm yumm

Although I've lived here all my life, I'd never even heard of this place until last week. I finally went on Saturday night, and I was tempted to write a review based on that experience, but I thought I'd hold off until I went again. Well, I wound up going back the next day lol. Both times, the service was very quick even though the line was pretty long. They had at least 5-6 people working the counter. The chicks working the counter were pretty cute too (don't see how that could be anything but a plus, haha). The ice cream was really good.. I had a pound cake ice cream the first time - awesome.. not too sweet, but just right. The second time I had a coffee cookie ice cream... it was even more awesome; coffee ice cream with an abundance of oreo cookies inside. Again, it wasn't so sweet that you want to go into hyperdrive, but it was just plain good ice cream. Also, if you ask for one scoop, they give you one VERY generous scoop. My family likes coming here, and they usually get the flavored sherbets. I'm not a fan of sherbets in general, so I can't comment on those. Finally, the prices: after being used to Ben and Jerry's and Coldstone pricing in Hoboken, the pricing here was a welcome change. $~3 for a pretty large serving of ice cream isn't that bad at all. oh and they also have soft serve if that's more your thing. Couldn't find anything bad to say about this place other than it's going to kill any semblance of a diet I imagined myself being on this summer. Great place and great service. 5 stars all around

Excellent ice cream. You should seek it out if you enjoy good ice cream. Service can be slow when busy due to inefficient help which takes away half a star.

The best ice cream I've ever had. They have some interesting flavors, but I stick to the classics: Cookie Dough, Cookies 'N' Cream (they use HUGE chunks of cookie, so good) and my favorite, Mint Cookie. I've never been someone who thinks to go out for ice cream until I tried Torico. Now I want to go all the time! Also, the portions are really big. I order a small and it usually has two large scoops. Great value!

Stopped in yesterday for a cone and I am so glad I did. Torico's ice cream is delicious. My wife and I used to go there regularly when we lived in Jersey City years back and I try and go whenever I am in the area. It is some of the best homemade ice cream in NJ. Definitely worth a trip, even for out-of-towners.

I thought our ice cream here was delicious! I'd come back gladly, and I don't say that very often about ice cream places. The texture was creamy, and lots of flavor. Medium priced, and lots of lines. Good to stop by after eating in the grove st area.

I been meaning to hit up toricos for a while. I finally did and it delivers. It's a small ice cream shop in jersey city but it offers much more with a ton of homemade exotic flavors and soft serve. I came on a hot evening and it was generously packed - good sign. The list the lot of they're flavors on the board for both soft serve and ice cream. I decided to taste test soursop (guanabana) just b/c I love the goya drink. It was alright, just a hint of flavor. I ended up getting the 2 flavors I'm obsessed with right now (coconut and green tea). It was actually coconut pineapple (with lots and lots and coconut and pineapple pieces) and it was yum!!! Green tea was solid. With homemade green tea it's very easy just to put vanilla ice cream and throw in matcha. It's wasn't the best I had but I'd have it again. I have to go back though to see if it's legendary. And my test for that is their Ube (purple yam). My favorite for store bought Filipino ice cream. If it's the best I've ever had, I'll let you know.. haha Seating is limited with a few tables with a long bench and and chairs. There's also a few tables outside too but honestly, it's always good to take a walk on a good day with good ice cream. All in all, it's a perfect neighborhood shop but for the flavors and quality alone it's worth the trip. 5 stars!

Dearest Torico's, please open again soon! Your windows are shuttered, I'm starting to swoon. Nowhere in Jersey City can we get handcrafted ice cream That tastes good as yours, and we're going to scream if you Don't give us some chocolate, or guava, sour sop? Your avocado ice cream was the first kind I noshed. No jackfruit, no pumpkin, no butter pecan? We're surviving on vanilla from bodegas again! Torico's, Torico's. You trump Tasti-D, and when you finally reopen, we'll be cool as can be. In cone or in cup, the choices are clear. I hope you re-open by the end of the year.

I woke up recently in my 104 degree apartment and realized there was something missing from my life. No, not love. No, not a fully functioning air conditioning unit. Cherry. Italian. ICE. You see, Torico's got me through some pretty rough times not too long ago with their delicious creations. Their handmade ice cream saw me through a summer of bad choices, from lousy jobs to even worse dating blunders. At the end of the day, I knew a quart of cherry Italian ice from Torico's could soothe the pain of another ridiculous day. Toricos's, you fill my heart hole AND my mouth hole. Please come back. I miss you, like the deserts miss the rain....

I took my daughter to Torico's for a big treat tonight. She ordered a kid's cone -pineapple & coconut and said it tasted bad. I went to our server and explained that the flavor tasted "off" and asked if she could have another flavor. While our original server was heading to replace the cone, another server jumped in and told me (not so nicely) that we would have to pay for another cone. We left the cone with our server - and went to Rita's - where we have always had great taste and a great customer experience. My 9 year old has Type 1 Diabetes so ice cream is a treat and its gotta taste good. I'm allergic to dairy but I had a lick and the flavor tasted "off". All I'm saying, is that it might have been nice to let her have a different flavor - they sure would have at Rita's! Was the lack of goodwill over a tiny scoop of ice cream worth it (50 cents)?? Now, IF we ever go back we will make sure to TEST, TEST, TEST before we order as we know their customer service is what it is.

This place is a old school JC ice cream shop. It's been closed for two years for renovations. When it finally reopened on June 1st, it was both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because it's homemade ice cream. A curse because it's going to make me fat. My girl and I went in last night for the first time since it reopened. The line was long as usual. They've got everything: cakes, cones, cups, soft serve, fro-yo, shakes, floats, and even coffee, cappuccino, espresso now too. My girl got some kind of supreme cherry ice cream in a cone with chocolate sprinkles. She loved it. I got the pound cake ice cream in a cup with chocolate chunks. If you live in JC, and need a sweet treat. This is the go to spot. It is fairly expensive though, so be ready to spend

It's little places like this that make me love my hometown. Fresh, homemade ice cream that is made right in front of you. It is amazing. Torico's has been open for as long as I can remember. When we were kids, we would come in here and hang out for hours on end. And they never kicked us out, just as long as we kept buying ice cream. Nowadays, I usually take my niece here while I'm babysitting. Yes, I bribe her by taking her here. Just like a little kid, she never knows what to go. She'll put her nose up against the glass and try to see what each ice cream looks like. And like a little kid, she always gets the chocolate with sprinkles. She'll look at 1003 flavors and she'll always get the chocolate. Me? I always get the chocolate as well. I'm a chocolate fiend, just like my niece. Guess I know where she got her love for chocolate from.

My experience with Torico has always been good. The servers are friendly and are willing to help with samples and suggestions. The amount of ice cream they give you for less than $5 is a great deal this close to NYC. (It's cash-only for small orders. Not at all uncommon for this area.) A sugar cone with a single scoop of chocolate chip vanilla is my current favorite. They have a lot of flavors to choose from, so don't be surprised if you try one you don't like.

This is my favorite ice cream place! The line can sometimes we long but totally worth it. The place always smells like the freshly made waffles and the staff is very friendly. Try have tons of homemade ice cream. I cannot pass by Torico's without stopping to get a chocolate malt shake!

Torico Ice Cream was yet another amazing Yelp discovery. My friends and I were brunching in the area and in search of a follow-up treat, so I referenced my app and was drawn into the café by the fabulous reviews and mouthwatering pictures. The space was simply adorable - bright, playful, and full of spunk. Their menu offered everything from sundaes to milkshakes, all of which included either their homemade signature flavors or one of their custom blends of frozen yogurt and syrups. While I was intrigued by unique creations like Pound Cake, Avocado, and Banana Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, I lamed out by going the healthy route a selecting a tiny kiddie cup of Passion Fruit sorbet. I simply adore this flavor, but this was honestly not one of the best scoops I have ever tried. However, they certainly felt comfortable charging $3.50 for a measly child's portion. I did throw my diet to the wind with a spoonful of my friend's Pistachio Cherry ice cream, which tasted like a sweet fruit punch. It was delicious and extremely creamy. I would definitely like to revisit Torico and reward myself with a more unusual flavor next time. However, I might need to save up some money before I can justify their steep prices!

  • Krina S.

Consistently good. Every flavor, every time. And they don't get mad when you take 10 minutes to decide what to get because they're so used to it. Oh yeah, they'll combine whatever flavors you want into a milkshake. There's almost always a line, but they have plenty of people working there, so it doesn't take toooo long.

  • Ngoc P.

Delicious ice cream. Seriously. I like my sweets but the medium sized cup was more than enough for me. I'd opt for a small next time. I had the coffee fudge, ginger, green tea, and peanut butter chocolate. You get a choice of two flavors in the medium cup. I don't know why I chose ginger (especially when I hate ginger) but it was pleasantly good. Try it before you get it, it can be overpowering. The green tea was really good and the peanut butter chocolate was to die for. The staff is friendly and they're patient in letting you try all the flavors. There's lots of cozy seating and the variety of flavors is incredible. You'll eventually find something you like. It was around 20 degrees outside, on a weekday at 9PM and there was still people standing in line for some ice cream. I drive by sometimes in the summer and the lines are quite long but I think it's worth waiting for. Definitely worth the trek for me. You can't get ice cream like this in a supermarket near me. (FYI, they also pack their ice cream in tubs for you to take home. Unfortunately I live far away and it'd melt by the time I came home).

  • Helen M.

I love their ice cream. So much flavors to choose from. Super fresh homemade ice cream. The staffs super friendly as well. The lines are out the door but its not a long wait to sink your teeth to the sweetest of heaven. I ordered a carmael ice cream and blueberry cheesecake on a chocolate waffle cone. Next time I will definitely try the ginger and ube

  • Nick C.

I love ice cream. Torico has ice cream. In a million different flavors. Including flavors that I thought only the Philippines had! Like ube, jackfruit, and avocado! The other flavors are banging too. The shop is pretty cool, it's a bright happy looking place. The staff is awesome, they always let me taste whatever I want before I order. I think I tried 10 flavors before I settled on one. They're also pretty good at suggesting combinations.

  • Elizabeth F.

I don't quite understand the hype around this ice cream. The taste of the ice cream is just ok. I have a huge problem that they put walnuts in the rocky road instead almonds. The coffee doesn't really taste like coffee and the vanilla doesn't taste like vanilla. They are just a little off. I have not tried some of their unique flavors like avocado, but I won't be back as I don't like what I have tasted so far.

    (3)
  • Wing L.

The ice cream is okay. I wished that the coffee ice cream tasted more like coffee ice cream. It doesn't really taste like anything in my opinion. The black sesame is really good, but they don't have it all the time. The people that work there are really nice and friendly though! I would definitely go back just because of the people that work there.

Ginger, Ube, lychee and coffee and cookies are stars in my eyes! I have the hardest time choosing but the staff helps along by giving samples!

I too wish there were Ten Stars I could award. The young ladies behind the counter were so very pleasant and engaging. It was obvious they enjoyed the job they were doing and customer interactions. The product is SOLID. Amazing fresh and very real taste. (Something old folks might call "Ice cream the way it used to be!) i've been there twice so far, and i'll be back again.

  • Stephanie M.

The ice cream was great. BUT, if you have a dog with you, you have to wait on the outside window line. Multiple employees help the inside line....and one employee helps the outside window line. Not sure if the ice cream is worth such a long wait.

  • Luisa K.

FANtastic! Friendly staff! Awesome flavors. Had been wanting to stop in here for a long time. So glad we finally made it in. Had the black sesame and it was insane. My daughter had the pepermint candy and said she wished her cone would never end. Staff was so friendly and they let us sample like 20 flavors!!! Awesome experience

Torico Ice Cream parlor has a place in my heart for having awesome ice cream. When I'm in JC and I think of having a frozen sweet treat, it's this place. It's hard to pass up homemade ice cream. So many flavors to try, and it turns out that the few occasions that I've been here I had a similar flavor. That was cherry. I tried the Cherry Vanilla and the Chunky Cherry. Of the two, definitely the Chunky Cherry because it had just gobs of cherry in it, big pieces like half black cherries. So good and creamy. One scoop is enough. If you're getting two scoops, be prepared for a sugar rush. Get the sugar cone. Ice cream isn't meant to be eaten in a cup. There are other things sold here like ice cream cakes and shakes. Every time I've been here, it's busy whether early evening and even late night like on Fri/Sat when they're open until 11pm. Definitely should go here if you're by the area and want what's good.

I fondly remember going to Torico's after church when I was a kid, so it's safe to say this place is old as f*ck. I'll be damned if it wasn't satisfying to spill ice cream on the dress clothes my mom forced me to wear when all my friends were wearing "cool" clothes to church. Suck it mom! Sorry, on to the review. One of the things I admire most about Torico's is the way they adapt to the ever changing JC demographics. Wherever your family is originally from, they likely have a flavor that will remind you of home. While I've liked pretty much every flavor I've tried, I can't live without the vanilla peanut butter. I literally refuse to even entertain getting another flavor. The vanilla is so rich and and soft, and every hit of peanut butter is a treat. So if you haven't been here yet this summer, you're depriving yourself. At this point most locals know that a walk to Torico's after dinner is THE summertime move.

Been coming here since I was 5 with my father before they remodeled ! I love love love this place ! The workers here are really nice and always smiling . This is a perfect place to come to any time of the year. They have unique flavors. My favorite one is the black cherry and the banana peanut butter if I'm not mistaken. This is the best ice cream shop in jersey city and its very welcoming !

Huge variety of homemade ice cream flavors especially Asian flavors like Ube, Jackfruit, Green Tea, Ginger, etc. My go to is the Ube, Coffee Cookies, & Almond Coconut. They even have a variety of custom soft serve flavors! Try the amaretto and pistachio soft serve! If you're full after a big meal but you're still craving a little something sweet, they have a kid's size which is perfect!

Awesome local homemade ice cream shop. They have a wide variety of flavors to choose from, so it might actually take some time to decide what you really want! Fortunately, they also have a very friendly staff that will let you sample before actually having to choose what you want.

This summer I think I moved in this place. Been here lots of times for ice-cream and banana split. The best ice cream I ever had in here was the Banana Peanut Butter Chunk!!! AMAZING! I love their ice cream and milkshakes. The girls are hard workers they handle a big line and always with a smile on their face. (Keep it up girls). And they prepare the ice cream so nice too. They definitely deserve that tip! Before summer ends I'm definitely going back for another banana split. They make those so good!

Can't wait to go back, especially as soon as the weather gets and stays warm. Love the familiar friendly staff and the selections of homemade ice cream. They usually have containers already filled sometimes variety packs in the freezer in the front. Soon as you walk in I love the smell of the homemade waffle cones. Love the friendly staff that's always so patient, and always have a smile on their face.

Really inventive ice cream- they have thousand homemade flavors. Super creamy, rich, fruit, tart..it's all there. BF and I came on a warm Sat night and waited about 10 min to get our ice cream. I had the avocado in a kid's cup (really, a NY small) which was on flavor- rich, creamy with a hinge of sweetness (it's ice cream). They said this particular flavor was great for shakes. BF got the coconut almond on a sugar cone, and even though he asked for one scoop.. it was really two. This flavor was too sweet for me- not overwhelmingly coconuty or almondy (less almond) but a perfect combo of the two. Other interesting flavors included the Filipino fruit, Ube, a berry called Mamey and plenty of the creative chocolate combinations one could imagine- chocolate cherry, chocolate peanut butter, etc. The service is really nice and quick- $7 for two.

This is a cute little ice cream shop located in Downtown Jersey City. It's one of the only businesses on the street so it's in a quiet location. They have a variety of flavors including the classics and more unusual ones. They also have soft serve. Torico's is often very crowded on summer nights. There is little room to sit on the inside but sometimes they set up tables outdoors for the customers to enjoy their cones. The staff has always been accomodating when I've asked to test out different flavors. There is a credit card minimum of $5.

I have only been here once and I already love the place. I have to go a few more times but my first experience was great! I am not a sweets person. So I rarely crave ice cream or dessert. But after a somewhat dull dinner... I was still craving something to end my meal. Also, being a hot and humid day - all the more reason for something cold. Being near by, I heard about this place so decided to try it out. It's a cute place in the corner. Their selection is huge and they combine the flavors as well so the selection is endless! I went tried the pistachio and mint chocolate chip. I must say, flavor was not overwhelming but what I really liked about this place was that the ice cream wasn't too sweet. It was creamy but still felt healthy... I think? All I know is that I didn't feel too guilty eating it. Service was prompt and friendly and the vibe was definitely fun and energetic. I thought it was interesting that more adults than kids were getting ice cream.

I decided to try Torico´s after hearing about it from a neighbor. The shop is very nice and the staff is very friendly. The ice cream I tried was definitely rich and creamy, but had little flavor to it. I expected the Mocha Java to have hints of coffee and chocolate which are two strong flavors. Also the "regular" size which was barely one scoop in a really large cup was not what I expected for $4.25, and you can't combine flavors unless you pay for a "large" size cup or cone which is almost $6.00 with tax. Cute place but not a place I will patronize on a regular basis.

  • Carly W.

Not entirely sure why this place has such a hype around it. The ice cream was okay. I had cookies and cream and my boyfriend had soft serve caramel. The caramel was bland and tasted more like plain vanilla than anything else. The cookies and cream was comparable to what I expect from a store bought gallon. Oh and I know that it was super busy (line was out the door!) but the service was slow. Friendly...but slooooow. I've worked at 3 different ice cream shops in my lifetime so I know my stuff! I guess I'd go back to try it again one more time if I was in the area but it's no destination.

How can you not adore Torico's!?! I had heard sooo much about it initially from a friend in my building who's absolutely obsessed with the Brownie Bowl here, so one night after dinner on Grove, we all sauntered over here for dessert! I have been hooked ever since. Located on a really charming block where parking is not always the best, it's a great place to walk to when in Downtown JC on a nice night. Forget all about those fuzzy the whale cakes and anything you can find in the Carvel freezer at Shoprite. Nothing beats homemade nor the charm of this place. Can't wait to come here and order my dad a custom ice cream cake for his birthday since ice cream is his favorite thing on the planet! No question that he will love it, the hardest part will be to narrow down the awesome and often unique flavors that they offer from an extensive list. My Jamaican mom would love it, too, considering they have fruity flavors that she is often reminiscing about from her youth - ahh, Jackfruit? Soursop? Tamarind? yeah mon!! I have tried many different flavors of ice cream each time I come in and I will second my friend's notion that the Brownie Bowl is delectable and hard to resist... But have I ever ordered it?? nope. Not the ice cream. Not technically. For me, the PASSION FRUIT SORBET is where it's at and a kid's size scoop on a waffle cone is just enough for moi. I. Am. Smitten.

If you are an ice cream and dessert addict, this would be a great place for you to lose your mind. It is like OMG the sugar rush is coming!!!!! They have so many cool flavors (original/custom), toppings, and styles. You can visit as many times as you would like and always find something new to taste. You can also make combination of your favorites or just stick with the regular. Have it in a cup, on a cone or as a smoothie or shake, either way, you will always come back for more. My favorite is the brownie bowl (warm brownie topped by different ice cream flavors) but I also stick with my oldies but goodies like: cookies and cream, butter pecan or strawberry shortcake. Did I forget to mention the place I am talking about? Yes!!!! It called Torico's Homemade Ice Cream in Jersey City. They are like a 5 minute walk from the Grove Street PATH station. So, if you are ever in the area, drop on in. Whatever you need, don't be afraid to ask the ladies behind the ice cream bar for any assistants or tastes, they would be more than happy to help.

Ice cream and gelato are great, however, their prices are high and the rules on ice cream serving too strict. I am usually able to have a couple flavors no matter the size or establishment I visit, but not here. Even though your serving clearly has two small scoops, they refuse to give you too flavors. Apparently the only way is if they charge you for a large, which no one, who cares about eating moderately, should do. In other words, either you pay up for a large even if you don't eat it and waste the ice cream and your money or you stick to a single flavor. I'm sure we have more reasonable ice cream parlors in the area, I hope.

Really love this place and we probably come here way too often for it to be healthy!!! Their coffee ice cream is so good as well as their vanilla with peanut butter swirls in it yum! Waffle cones are very tasty as well and they alway are extremely generous with the portions. My fiancé is a big fan of the cookies and cream milkshake which I have sampled and which is delicious. All the servers at Torino are so nice, truly service with a smile :)

Jersey City has a heavyweight homemade ice cream shop...and it's two blocks from my door. Let's just say I might have to start paying rent at this place. The girls who work here are all cray nice. My favorites are the Praline / Strawberry + Banana (two different flavors but sometimes found together in the to-go containers) / any of the cheesecakes / chocolate peanut butter' Make sure you get it in the waffle cone. (it's homemade) The milkshakes are delicious but VERY sweet. I always wondered why, and I caught them sneaking some simple syrup in it. Now, I'm not going to complain over a little extra sugar, but if you're getting some delicate flavors I would tell them to hold it. If you're doing something chocolately and rich, then dive right in!

It was one of the first really nice days of the season and my boyfriend and I went on an ice cream adventure, after my pleading and demanding. We decided on this Jersey City ice cream spot that we have passed by on a zillion occasions. The first time we tried their ice cream was at Bar-B-Q festival last September in Hamilton Park. I remember enjoying the avocado ice cream as well as the coconut joy flavor, in heavy waffle cones topped with pretty sprinkles. This time, visiting the storefront, we were able to try so many different flavors, like pound cake, pumpkin pie, coconut almond, cherry pistachio. We decided on a coffee cookie flavor, and the good old repeat offender, almond joy. The two giant scoops in a sugar cone dipped in chocolate and sprinkles at the top...delightful. These were excellent decisions. The coffee cookie ice cream was a smooth sea of coffee ice cream, littered with large chunks of oreo cookies. The combination was delicious, and ingenious at the same time. Coconut joy, on the other hand had all the yummy elements of the almond joy candy bar; coconut, almonds and a healthy dose of chocolate. The coconut ice cream was smooth and textured, and the almonds were slivered, while the chocolate chunks were dark and bittersweet. Not only was the quality of the ice cream excellent... I mean this is the good stuff, heavy, thick, full, rich with a wholesome feeling of homemade... but the service was super great. The staff was extremely patient with me in my indecision, and they let us taste as many flavors as we could without forgoing a cone. They were sweet, funny, and super understanding. I can't wait to go back and try out more flavors... Maybe a combo of pumpkin pie and pound cake.... Or strawberry cheesecake... So much goodness to choose from.

As good as it gets for an ice cream shop! Large variety of flavors, both sweet and savory. My two go to flavors are the chocolate peanut butter and the coffee cookie. They also have a good number of savory flavors like ginger and avocado. I haven't tried their Italian ice or sorbet, but that's just because it's not my thing. I'm a regular in the summer. Be prepared on a warm night because the line can get pretty long, although it moves pretty quickly. There are a few small tables arranged outside, as well as curbside walk up window which is a savior when it gets packed inside.

Great tasting homemade Ice cream. Every time I tried something new, it always tasted fresh and delicious. They have some unique flavors too, finding a parking spot is a pain. Must try this place if you're in the area.

A great local treat for warm summer nights; usually a long line, but service is attentive and sweet!

Love this place. Ive had ice cream, a shake and even got a cake...all good, very good! The ladies that work there are always so friendly will even joke around with us. I'm a big fan of the coffee cookie ice cream! Yum!

3.5 rounded up. Icecream is made of all fresh ingredients and they had a wide variety. It was definitely better than your average icecream, but I think the icecream could have had more flavor. I had the vanilla fudge with chocolate sprinkles and coffee royale with nuts. I sampled the soursop which was interesting and could potentially buy.

Homemade ice cream.. Custom soft serve .. Shakes.. Smoothies.. Slushies.. Cakes! What more can you ask for? This isn't your typical ice cream parlor. Think outside the box when ordering ice cream! Like.. Lychee! Jackfruit! Avocado! Ube! These unique flavors that I can only find in Philippine stores are now in Torico's. I love them all! Especially the Marshmallow Chocolate and Dulce de Leche.. Those are just the few I've tried over the years & always left me coming to try new flavors.

Nice and friendly staff - and AWESOME ice cream! I'm a sucker for soft serve and this place is right next to me. I'm glad I discovered this little gem recently. They have a pretty awesome array of flavors. You'll definitely spend a few minutes trying to figure out what you want... it ain't a easy decision. Strawberry cheesecake is simply, the bomb. I walk by here pretty often... and it's a busy spot. Easy to understand why though.

This is a fantastic place to get ice cream, but the portions are small while the prices are high. The ice cream is both creamy and flavorful and I didn't try anything that I didn't enjoy. They have a lot of unique flavors, but since they are so small and busy, I did not feel like I had enough time to ask about or try all the flavors that I wanted to. Your first time to a place like this, be prepared to be a little bit overwhelmed. I would definitely recommend deciding your top 3 flavors before you reach the front of the line. I will be back to try more.

I love the idea of Torico's - the neighborhood ice cream joint that's been around for ages, with long lines out the door on sticky, sweltering summer time nights. Couples hand in hand on a "date" to get a taste of sweetness that only new love can rival. But I'm usually disappointed. First off, it's pricey - I understand it's homemade in the back and there are all kinds of fancy, exotic flavors - but you must admit, it's pricey. And while the first few bites are good, even great, there's something just too sweet about it. Perhaps it's just my palate? But somewhere around the middle of the small scoop, this ice cream goes from being a refreshing summertime treat to leaving me wanting for a tall glass of water to wash away the cavity boogeyman. I thought it was just a fluke until it happened again, and again. I gave it one more try this summer when a green tea ice cream craving hit. I love the bitterness of the green tea cut with touches of sweet creaminess. But the flavor was weak on green tea and strong on cloying sweetness. I need more GREEN TEA flavor! 5 stars for that throw-back ice cream parlor feel, but only 3 stars overall.

Great Service. Wonderful flavors- lot of natural seasonal fruit flavors. Long list of options to confuse you. Try the Jackfruit flavor: really awesome. If you can't wait for your ice cream and rather enjoy it late at night try it hitting the spot after 1030PM thats when the rush reduces :)

Definitely a welcomed change from the "chain" ice cream shops like Dairy Queen etc. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood near the grove street path, this ice cream shop is something special. Their ice cream is homemade and features not only the regulars (cookies n cream, cookie dough, vanilla etc) but also some "fancy" varieties like jackfruit and spicy eggnog. Grab the two scoop in a bowl or come and mix and match some flavors. Not sure what you want? Ask the nice ladies behind the bar for some "tastings" (free) to help you make up your mind. Feeling adventurous? Try the brownie a la mode which is a brownie topped off with ice cream, your toppings and a cherry. You'll be in heaven.

Love it here! It's me and my boyfriend's go to place when we want to fill a sweet tooth craving nearby, and they never fail. The service is sooo great even when it's crowded. There's some indoor seating. You can sample flavours...did I mention there's many flavors in ice cream and gelatos so whatever strikes your fancy you will most likely find here. Fruity, savoury, traditional flavors as well. I still haven't tried everything but I will in time lol.

Great place to bring your family on a hot day! Very children friendly and provides a great atmosphere for all ages. This ice cream spot even contributes to the Wounded Warrior Project! Nothing is better than America and a sweet cup of ice cream!

A wide array of ice cream flavors in an adorable old fashion ice cream shop. // SERVICE // Great. We were definitely the annoying patrons that sampled 5 different flavors before finally settling on one. The young girl working there also seemed genuinely concerned when a young girl came in to buy ice cream at 9 pm and left alone. She made sure the girl would safely make it home before letting her walk out the door. // FOOD // + Almond coconut: Creamy and sweet with bits of coconut. The almonds slivers added great texture + Coffee and cookie: Second time spotting this flavor (Have also had it at Fosselmans in Alhambra, CA) and it was very tasty. The coffee flavor was slightly muted, but still aromatic and the huge chunks of Oreo cookie were so tasty

BEST homemade/handmade [same?] ice cream in the area! DEEEEEEEE-LISSSSHHHHH-OUSSSSSS!!! So many FLAVORS, rich and creamy, exotic types and well-known flavors, all amazing and delicious. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place. Will not disappoint. Entire place was re-done last year and it reflects better the neighborhood and business. Definitely a neighborhood/area institution and deservedly so. Totally a delight to visit, the servers are excellent, helpful and always friendly. There are a few tables inside and also outdoors when the weather is nice. They even have a cute walk-up window; very charming. Most charming ice cream place. Prices are not cheap, but worth every morsel! This place is dabomb.com . People still use that, don't they? Or, is that soooo 2.0...? ; )

When it is hot as hell outside, this place is clutch!! Sometimes the line is really long though. They also lack a formal process for ordering which leads to a bit of chaos (hey-I was standing there). Their selections of sorbets and gellatos are both creative and extensive (Avocado? - YES!). It should be noted that I find it borderline sacrilege that they cut their milkshakes with simple syrup. If I wanted more sugar and water added to my delicious dairy drink I would do so myself.

Delicious ice cream and Italian Ices. Really superior service, too--the young people who work here seem two cuts above the typical service one expects. Only drawback is that there are very few places to sit. It's almost more of a takeout spot than an ice cream parlour.

A lot of variety. All fantastic. Creamy and flavorful. I stop there after going to LITM for dinner. A perfect evening.
